Windows 10 fresh install lag every game.
Hello guys,
I tried to figure out what happened to my pc but after a month i'm without ideas.
Let me explain the situation.
I had an old windows 10 installation and after a year without formatting it was getting pretty slow so I decided to install a fresh windows 10. I downloaded the iso from the microsoft website and I installed it. Then I installed the nvidia driver and steam. When I started cs:go (after a fresh donwload) it went from going good with the old installation of windows 10 to lag even in the main menu. At that point i tried to install Minecraft and osu! and even those games do lags spikes.

How I can solve this lag?

Pc specs:

Mobo: Asus m5a78l-m/usb3
CPU: AMF FX6300
GPU: NVIDIA GTX770 4GB
RAM: 12GB
SSD: SAMSUNG 850 EVO 250GB
HDD: WD GREEN 1TB

Did you do all the Windows Updates first?
Then go get all your official drivers?
Chipset, Audio, LAN, GPU... from the chipset makers sites.

Yeah i did, i let windows make all updated and on the asus website there is only the LAN driver for Windows 10 and i installed it.

Don't trust Windows to get the proper drivers for all of your components. For Nvidia, go here

http://www.geforce.com/drivers

yeah i also don't trust them so i already downloaded the nvidia one.

The issue is that all your hardware is old, so you really won't have proper updated Driver support from the ASUS Motherboard model website. Many Drivers may appear to be installed already, but that is due to since Win10 is much newer, it has many already on-hand, but they are just generic drivers. For example "HD Audio Driver" most WinOS have this already for those that have GPU Audio or Realtek Onboard Audio; however that built-in Windows Driver the OS already has is generic, and will only have very basic features, unlike the latest official driver from Realtek directly.

Here is a list of the Drivers you need for your config:

AMD Motherboard Chipset[support.amd.com]
^Click "Optional Downloads" for just Chipset Driver

Realtek GBE Wired LAN[www.realtek.com.tw]

VIA HD Audio[download.viatech.com]

AsMedia USB 3.xx Driver[dlcdnet.asus.com]

Samsung Magician (SSD Driver & Software)[www.techspot.com]
^Once installed, install the RAPID Driver from within Magician app.

Ensure DirectX Runtimes get installed too, now since you have some newer games (like GTAV) you can install it from that game folder, as that game has that already on-hand in its game folder: \\Steam\steamapps\common\Grand Theft Auto V\
_CommonRedist\DirectX\Jun2010\DXSETUP.EXE

If you are using NVIDIA 378.49 Driver, please ensure to update this further to address many bugs, using the latest Driver Hotfix Update 378.57: http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4378

HDD: WD GREEN 1TB

there is your clue: for gaming to work properly, get a 7200rpm hdd. a 5400rpm-5900rpm is only good for data storage.

WD Green is ok for general file storage; not for running an OS or installed Games off of.

in fact, it is really strange that you're waiting from your computer's performance on the components that were first released in 2009 - it's all the same old chips with small cosmetic changes

old chipset that support only SATA1 & 2 and slow WD Green neutralized use of SSD - it just works in a quarter of its capacity, if you had just two WD Black you get about the same performance, and maybe more

from personal experience I can say that the newer drivers slower than the old ones ... but you have no choice - old drivers do not support the W10

It is true that his SATA Chipset is only SATA-II (3Gbps) but that should be fine.
I've used newer SSDs in older Laptops that only have SATA-II and that was never an issue.

All his hardware supports Win10; but you have to get the Drivers elsewhere.
Motherboards and PreBuilds will cease support after 1-3 years usually.

Thats why I linked all the Drivers.

I followed all those steps and it is like before, nothing changed.

Are your games on the HDD, if so when was the last time you defragmented it?
On a side note never defrag a SSD, make sure even auto/scheduled defrag if it is set up is turned off for the SSD.

Also one big thing since you have a new install of windows have you gone and turned off the peer to peer update thing win 10 now uses where they use yuor computer to give updates to other peoples computers. Since those games you listed are mostly online games that peer to peer can have a big effect.
Go to Settings>Update & Security>Windows Update>Advanced options>Choose how updates are delivered>Updates from more than one place = Off.
I've seen people report that alone causing them 1000+ms lag spikes.
Highly recommend anyone that does online gaming to go and turn this off pronto.

Off topic here but is this driver neccessary? I have samsung 850 evo 250gb ssd and it is working fine. Would it be beneficial to download this?

I did the defragment not long time ago. For the p2p updates i disabled them but my problem isn't about connection but about fps and lag spikes mostly.
