4 gb ram but reads 2 gb ram

I just recently bought a 4gb ram but it only reads 2 gb ram anyone knows why this is happening if so can you help me out.. I have a mother board that its max capacity 8 gb ram but I used 2 pieces of 2 gb ram and i believe the other 2 slots are meant for 4x2 gb ram so tried to use 2x2 and 4x1 gb ram but it only appears black screen after plugging in the 4 gb ram :( .. can u guys help me out

It does that cause it doesn't support ANY 4GB, period.
It supports up to 8GB MAX; populating all 4 slots w/ 2GB per slot
How many times do we have to go over this.
The specs are clear and they clearly say all this.

You still want to return that 4GB anyways; it's not going to work in that board.

again your motherboard does not support 4 gig sticks ..

only 2 gig sticks

you would have to buy 2 \ 2 gig sticks to get 4 gig of ram ////

or buy 4 \ 2 gig sticks of DDR 2 to max out your motherboard to 8 gig of ram

go download and read your motherboard manual .. i already gave a link to the specs Direct from ASUS

you can even look up the CPU support list from that page

and yea to upgrade your CPU is gonna get expensive if ya go to the MAX CPU for that board ..its a core 2 quad Q 9650 or a QX 9650 ..both those of those are quad core CPU's

and yea you may also need a new CPU cooler as well as an Updated bios to use them

you need 2 of those kits (for a total of 4 TWO GIG sticks = to get 8 gig of memory to MAX OUT what your motherboard can handle

and yep that memory SHOULD work fine

returm what ya already bought ..4 gig dimms will not work in your OLD motherboard

you did not post that info ..read your motherboard manual ... all your answers are there

Please reinstall the 2x2GB that was working fine; then go into Windows
Download and install CPU-Z and run that.
Click Validate > Submit
When web browser comes up with your specs; copy and paste that web address into here.
Then we can ID the exact RAM you already have that works well.

So yea adding these to your existing 2x2GB and you'll have 8GB RAM Total
Just be sure the RAM gets set to 800Mhz
Which you can do now if you like, then it will already be setup for the new RAM, since these match, there is no settings changes that should need to make later after installing them.
