What is 4k?

Im thinking about choosing a 4K screen or a cheaper monitor.Right now im leaning towards buying a 144hz lg monitor that is about 24 inch since its cheaper and i would be able to run my games on it with higher FPS since its smaller screen so smaller resolution .Im just thinking what is 4k.Does it make the pictures more defined and vibrant in colour??

4K is a resolution. Its 4096 × 2160 pixels. The picture is much sharper and clearer with a lot less artifacts at texture borders. It looks really nice but you need a really powerful pc to play most modern games at 4K. SLI of 2 high end GPU is strongly recommended.

It does look amazing there is no denying. However the Steam overlay is not 4K supported so it is almost impossible to see. There are other programs that do not support it either. I personally have mine downscaled the resolution to 1920x1080 since I simply cannot live without using those programs.

4k is marketing bs: not fully supported by most apps and OS'es, completely unsupported by apps, released before 2015 (may not startup or look ugly)

so what im understanding from most of you guys comments is that 4k just means more pixels making the picture look more detailed right??.Also the bigger the resolution the more powerfull my GPU will be right.

It's the pixel density, and yes - there are 24" 4K monitors.

If you have a few thousand bucks gaming pc that could be worth it. If not, then i would not bother with 4K.
The point of a 144hz monitor is that you can run games at that framerate. You will NEVER be able to play a modern game at 4k and 144 hz if you dont own an absolute beast pc.
And i mean BEAST, as in several thousand bucks.

true . I think instead of buying another monitor im just gonna get another GTX 1080. Right now i can play games at 4k on ultra and get around 40-60 usually 50-60 FPS but im just trying to get more then 60 FPS right now

There is no such thing as a 144hz 4K monitor and won't be for a long time. We might see 100hz 4K this year and maybe even 120hz. If you want high resolution with high refresh rate I would look at the acer x34 or the Asus ROG 34. Both are 3440x1440p at 100hz with gsync but they cost $1200.

I'm confused by your last statement though. Do you have a 4K screen and want to get another 1080? If so you dont need another 1080 and it will be a waste since they don't make 4K monitors above 60Hz at the moment.

I use a single 1080 for 4K and it runs great.

yeh im thinking about getting another gtx 1080 but i geuss for now it runs ok
