Windows keeps playing an annoying notification sound, and I can't make it stop.

I turned off notification sounds for apps, and it still does it, sometimes to the point of insanity (one every 3 minutes) It never tells me what program is making this noise, nor if it's not a program what the alert means. It is driving me crazy. Can someone please help me?

Can you post a video?

Did you check the notifications area?
Do you have a monitoring app (like for CPU/GPU, etc.) setup to Audio-Alert you of issues? Such as low fan speeds, high temps, etc.

One time it was happening I went through the windows sounds in Sounds and clicked ones I thought it might be until I found it, and it said it was the app notification sound. I will say that if I am watching itunes, that it slows down just before the alert noise. I don't know if the alert noise is the culprit, or if it's trying ot tell me of something. As I said, there's no notification other than the sound. There is no other warning about what is going on. The notification area is clear. No I do not have a monotoring app at all. It happens a lot when I run VR, but it doesn't happen every time. I think it's happened when I was outside of VR to, so that may not be the cause. I turned off sound notifications, and still get it. I'm not sure how to track down a random sound when there is no notification anywhere of what it might be.

Update: I may have found what it is, I've had my PC on for the last couple of days, as I've been very busy and just forgot to turn off, do things still slow down on PC's if you keep them on for long periods of time without turning them off?

If its the Notification Sound; that is either the OS or an App you have in background doing something to cause that to occur. You should be seeing a popup or something listing in Windows Notifications (it keeps a list; click that icon next to Clock). But overall, these sounds from the OS should all stop if you click Sound Icon > Mixer and Mute "System Sounds"

I keep some of mine on 24/7; we maybe reboot them once per week.
With OS on SSD and having 16 GB (or more) of RAM, I rarely ever have to reboot. Unless maybe doing updates or installs that require it, or where it would be best to do so.

Nope. I have my PC on 24x7, well mostly.

right side of task bar: turn off notification for this app when the annoying sound you have is being played.

The notification system has a Silent Mode too if you prefer to toggle that on/off as you like.

That's just it, there IS no notification in the notification bar after it happens.

Another update: I just started watching a movie on iTunes and it started doing it, so maybe it's itunes, is there a way to find out what iTunes is doing specifically so I can stop it?

i had the same problem disable windows defender that is what is making the sound

For me it's like 1 every 3 seconds. I am actually gonna grab a shotgun and shoot my computer then my self.

Found out mine was the new mail sound I disabled it by right-clicking the speaker's icon in the bottom right selecting sounds finding the culprit (by hitting test until I found it) then, in the drop-down list scrolling to the top and selecting [none] hitting apply and ahh peace.

I had this issue as well, and after a long time of staring at my system tray and searching trough sounds, I noticed that discord was the culprit. the AFK channel in my community discord was not connecting correctly and would make a sound evert three seconds. I found it by right clicking on my speaker icon and selecting sound mixer and expanded it to show every running program. when the sound played, the only bar that moved was discord. I hope this helps someone!

or change windows sound profile to 'no sounds'
