CPU and Motherboard Upgrade
I currently have an HP P7-1154 with:
  • AAHD3-HB mobo
  • AMD A6-3600
  • GTX 760
  • 4 sticks of RAM, totalling 14 GB
  • a single 2 TB HDD
  • Thermaltake TR2 600W PSU

I've been looking to upgrade the CPU, and with it the motherboard and case
If I get:
  • AMD FX-8370
  • MSI 970A-G43 Plus
  • DeepCool Tesseract SW case

Should I run into any issues? Particularly with cable connections?

AMD FX CPU'S are awful, if you want AMD your only real option is to get Ryzen.

Yes Ryzen 5 / 7 or Intel So.1151 -> But both also need newer DDR4 RAM...

...and when you do it, then make sure not to mix up random RAM sticks together. More isnt always better and in you case it ignores alot of basic things incl. Dual Channel...

I have a 1700 and it plays games well. Not a gaming CPU but it works well. If you want an AMD cpu, just got Ryzen 5 or Ryzen 3 depending on your budget. As for motherboard, just get whatever works with your CPU.
Lastly for case, depending on if you are going to get something to show off, get NZXT. If not just get a Carbide Series 100R or somehing like that, you can always just get something on sale. I got my Corsair case for $40.

If i was going to do it again for a case, i would of got a silent case.

I hope this helps.

I wouldn't go with Ryzen 3 as that's 2c/4t. Ryzen's advantage over Intel Skylake/Kaby Lake is more cores more threads, Kaby Lake Pentium is now HT so that advantage is gone. Ryzen 5 would be better, 4c/8t or 6c/12t.

First off, u have an OEM Case and PSU; build a whole new system. Do not reuse those parts, since there isn't anything in that HP worth re-using anyways.

Build around a nice open case, a reliable beefy PSU and tons of quiet fans for overall great airflow.

And build around 7th Gen Intel or AM4 Ryzen; there really is not much else worth choosing. Unless you want old stuff that wont really be any better then what u already have.

In your case a G4560/B250 mobo /DDR4 ram is your more economical baseline. Whatever you can re-use from the HP fine if not you'll have to buy new stuff ie like the HP oem PSU is probably crud and low watts.

G4560 ^.

If you're willing to throw a more moderate amount of $ at it then the Ryzen 5 1600/B350 mobo/2x8GB DDR4 is a good idea.

I'm not sold on the idea ^ of the r5 1400 let alone the lack of use the Ryzen 3 is going to offer, r5 1600 with moderate overclock is the way to go even over i5s.
