Seriously need help
Ok so everything was good, enjoying some csgo and suddenly i keep lagging in comp. So, i decide to get a new wifi network adapter. I chose the ASUS PCE-AC68 as a network adapter. After i installed it and it's drivers it seemed to work fine. However, after a while it began to not work correctly. It would suddenly just lose connection and i would have to wait for hours before it picked up networks. Then all of a sudden my computer began to get random freezing. On startup, bootup and just casually navigating windows my computer would just freeze. I have been experiencing this for a while now and i was just on my vr headset when suddenly it froze. I booted my pc back up and my background was completely black and my windows personalized style was all blocky and basic (not like the one i usually use). What should i do? please i am beginning to panic and i am running a full virus scan as i type this.

Just for further details: i have my main os and boot up device as my samsung pro 850 ssd. 256GB. got about 90GB free space. i have 2 hdds. one has my old os on and some other games installed alongside a 4tb hdd with 200 games installed. both hdds are 7200rpm.

Did you use the install CD that came with the adapter, or did you get the latest drivers from ASUS?

latest drivers from asus. my case is a corsair 400c and i can't use an optical drive. are asus's drivers buggy as hell?

Hmm..

If you are on Win10 you can see if the OS has Default drivers for the adapter.
which would be uninstalling the adapters drivers, Reboot after you uninstall the drivers and go from there.

My sons PC had Win7 on it for a while, at which time i had gotten a new netgear USB adapter, installed the Drivers for it and every now n then it would have connection issues.(this was ages ago btw, not recently)

Installed Win10 on it a few months ago and the OS used default drivers for it without the need to install actual drivers. Ever since then, havent had any issues with the adapter whatsoever.

So in my case, it could have been an issue with Win7, could have been an issue with the drivers.

Difference of course being, the adapter on my sons PC is a USB adapter, not a PCI-E one like you are using.

What else do you have installed on the PC? i suppose it could be a PCI-E limitation, or possibly something in the BIOS.. not sure..

ok but what is causing my computer to constantly freeze, disconnect and cause my background to complete black and the personalization to the basic blocky design?

It could be the drivers i suppose, if this only started when you installed the adapter.
Possibly something to do with the software for it if the driver came with any.

If you are able to return the adapter, you could give the USB version a try.
The USB one should be less of a hassle and may not require a driver install.

Also, where is the adapter located in relation to your Wifi router?
And are there a lot of Wifi connections in your area?

i'm using my old usb adapter and my computer seems to be fine. but yesterday before shutting down there was an application that was stopping my pc from shutting down called wgld dummy window folder. also my event viewer says the following under a warning message: The maximum file size for session "Circular Kernel Context Logger" has been reached. As a result, events might be lost (not logged) to file "C:\WINDOWS\system32\WDI\LogFiles\BootCKCL.etl". The maximum files size is currently set to 104857600 bytes.

theres also an error too that says: Session "Circular Kernel Context Logger" stopped due to the following error: 0xC0000188

do you have geforce experience installed?
Did this only happen after you installed the drivers?
Did you uninstall the drivers before you removed the adapter?

no i didn't uninstall the drivers. i have geforce experience and it happened as soon as i got the adapter and it's drivers

then uninstall the drivers
it may be best to uninstall them with the adapter plugged in, then shut down and remove the adapter.

plugged them in, uninstalled devices. everything seems fine for now

k well keep testing it and see how it goes, bout the only thing you can do.

But being as that adapter gives you problems, id return it if you can and give the USB one a try, or just get a different one altogether.
