You can quickly switch via Windows Mixer. There should be a drop-down box there to switch quickly and easily between say "Analog Speakers" and "Display HDMI"
right-click on speaker icon in notifications area > audio devices
or
WinKey + S > start typing Sound or audio > click sound or manage audio devices either work
then just click My Monitor or Speakers > set as default and its done.
Just find it tedious...
Considered a USB Audio Adapter for 3.5mm Speaker/Headphone and Microphone Jacks.....something like
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Plugable-Headphone-Microphone-Aluminum-Compatibility/dp/B00NMXY2MO
However, I suspect the quality would degrade and while I suspect my default output device would automatically change if I connect/disconnect the USB I don't want to waste money to test it.
i could purchase a new USB headset, sure PC would switch output to headset fine and return to speakers when unplugged. There's nothing wrong with my current headset, sounds good with a decent mic so don't really want to replace it.
Unless I can find a simple click and done program or script I'm thinking about adding an old sound card I still have, somewhere. That way I can connect Monitor to the card and speakers to the onboard sound. Not sure if it'll work but it won't cost me anything to try, well, besides a little time.
Thanks Cathulhu I'll look into it later. Never have an issue with sound levels for other apps. Might be because I have yet to install a single UWP app.
Don't like the Metro style store on my PC. Fine for tablet/phones but not on my PC. I have a bigger screen so I can see more things not the same things that fit on a 3-5 inch phone or 7-10inch tablet screen on a 24 or 27inch screen. Main reason I only tried Microsoft Edge for a minute. Click settings or bookmarks and most of it is filled with space and big bulky boxes and very few options....Sorry, seeing UWP got my Rant going lol
click Speaker > Mixer > drop down > device name
DONE
Why do people consider USB audio. Think of how that works? ON, off, on, off...
Analog is ALWAYS ON. And there is no worry of... Is this headset going to work on this OS, are the drivers stable, etc.
via Analog on the same device, yes you can do that.
Can even just use a splitter for audio out; one for Speakers, one for Headphones.
I know I understood what you said in post #1
Now while I split my methods up when describing my current process in post #2 they break down to one of 2 processes.
A) Speaker icon > Audio devices > Select Device > set as default
B) WinKey + S > start typing Sound or audio > click sound/manage audio devices > Select Device > set as default
A is 4 steps and will take same as what you said and B is 5 steps. Neither is a long or complicated process. O and FYI I don't use your
click Speaker > Mixer > drop down > device name
route because I don't have the basic Speaker Icon that leads to the Mixer option on my taskbar or notification area. I opted to hide it and keep my Realtek HD Audio Manager with it's speaker icon there instead. Which is still 4 steps and just as simple.
I've had 2 USB headsets in the past and both performed well. I never bought them or my current headset based on connection type. I've only considered it briefly as my default audio device would change automatically when plugged in or removed. I'm not doing anything that will really be at a disadvantage of USB versus 3.5mm Jack so it really doesn't bother me.
Good point. Bad assumption on my part based on seeing several UWP UI design examples on some app pages and assuming they'd all have the same look and feel I don't like. Will consider looking on the store in the future.
I'd need a splitter for the headset and speakers jack to the port but that is a nice idea. Thx
1. Rightclick on the icon in the taskbar.
2. Leftclick on the output you want as your default.
Looks like this:

I downloaded it, had issues at first. Can't install apps from store if windows update is disabled. Once I re-enabled Windows Update EarTrumpet downloaded and installed fine.
Seems alright sofar. Switches devices nice and quick and I do like that fact I can adjust volumes for individual apps when left clicking. Think I may like this feature more than the switching audio devices haha
Thanks for the recommendation
Don't like the fact there is no .exe I can keep for future installs and will need to redownload it. Is the no executable standard for all windows app stuff?
Thx, still installed but I checked in Control Panel > Program and Feature and noticed it doesn't show up there for removal. Instead it is listed in the Apps and Features. Lovely having to different places to see installed programs and ways to remove them..............struggling not to complain about that and other related Win10 stuff I don't like ;/
Thx again for the help
