Vsync question.
Hello. I have a question and i did not find this at google so maybe you guys can help me out. So when i enable vsync in games i get a stable 60 fps but it keeps droping 2 frames all the time so for example i play a game and then for no reason it drops down to 57 fps. So it feels like my game stutter. But when i disable vsync the problem is gone. Any ide what it is?

That's just what Vsync does. It restricts your FPS to 60 or 30 and tries to keep it there. This ends up causing frame stutters and input lag, so be wary of that.

If you have NVIDIA GPU, try turning off VSync within Games, and enable either FastSync or Adaptive Sync within NVIDIA Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Vertical Sync

If your display is 60hz try capping fps to 60 without enabling V-sync. You may or may not get or notice any screen tearing. If you don't or its acceptable leave it off otherwise try both fast and adaptive and see what you prefer.

Personally, I'd leave V-sync off, especially in competitive games as it adds some input lag, provided any screen tearing isn't too bad. Screen tearing usually isn't very noticable at high refresh rates, if noticed at all which is why many prefer high refresh screens. Even when fps is capped at 60 on a 120hz or greater display any screen tear is replaced quickly enough it normally isn't a concern. They even make your OS looker and feel smoother so they aren't just good for gaming.

Sorry, I'm biased when it comes to 144hz displays :D

Well i would cap it at 60 fps if it was any option to do it. How can i do it if there is no option to do it in game. Im playing mostly right know friday the 13th and vsync dosnt hurt that much in that game. So what should i use for that fast sync or adaptive vsync.

Vsync should not cause stutter. The main issue generally is input lag.
If you have an nvidia card go into the control panel and force "fast" vsync.
That will eliminate tearing but not come with any additional latency.

Various ways to cap FPS outside of in-game options. I've used Nvidia Profile inspector in the past when I wanted to cap fps. Sure others here can offer alternatives to try too.

Yes if you have GTX 10xx series, then you should have "FastSync" so best to try that mode.
If when using any of these force sync modes you still have a stutter that is harsh on the eyes, enable Triple Buffering.

Some games still have issues still? Disable ShaderCache

btw fast sync works even on kepler cards, i got gtx 760 myself and it works

Just make sure you never drop under 60 frames and you will be fine with vsync. Adaptive vsync only works with certain GPU's and fastsync is reserved for Pascal GPUs only (GeForce 10 series).
