1440x1080 vs 1920x1080
Is there a difference in quality?

Yeah 1440s 6:3 and 1920s 16:9 but i mean in image quality how big is the difference i tried looking i just can't see one other then the black bars...

1920x1080 is 1080p.

If you are looking for a new monitor do not get anything lower then 1080p.

I'm talking about the black bars that appear when you use 1440x1080 in the "Custom Resolution" on nvidia control panel

what i was originally asking was if 1440x1080 was the same as 1920x1080 (basically it seems 1440x1080 is just 4:3 aspect ratio 1080p)
1440x1080 = 6:3 = 2:1? I am not a math genius but 1440 doesnt look as twice as much as 1080.

I belive you meant 4:3. And it has nothing to do with the screen quality at all. 4:3 is an old screen setup while 16:9 is a modern nearly like used in cinema setup. you can have a larger picture to the sides and therefor see more then with a 4:3 screen.

the picture quality has to do something with dpi. espacially how many pixels you have on a specific square. a 1080p 24" screen has at the same distance a better picture then a 2160p 60" screen.
Why are you using a custom resolution.. just set the resolution to your native monitor resolution.

my desktop is my native but i can't really stand how big 1920x1080 looks so i am trying to find a smaller resolution that's still 1080p...(yeah it's kinda hard too explain)
oh thats btw why you call 16:9 also widescreen...

on your next question you see the black bars at the top and bottom because the picture you showing is a 16:9 picture and it tries to fit in the screen so at the top and botton it is simply black. same goes when you try to watch a 4:3 picture on a 16:9 screen then it is just black on the sides.
To answer what i think your question is... yes 1440x1080 is the same quality as 1920x1080

There are downsides to using this resolution

it's 4:3 aspect ratio meaning you will have black bars and you can't do anything about it...

Some games flat out won't support it and will try and stretch it(i think you can fix this in the nvidia control panel but i'm not sure...)
You want one of your games to be stretched? Enable GPU scaling in the Nvidia control panel (not sure if Nvidia has that option). Then set your game resolution to any 4:3 resolution. That will probably work. But I am not 100% sure.

No you cant. Depends one the GPU drivers and if the game supports it.

Obviously wrong statement. I can say accordingly "on 4:3 you can have a larger picture vertically and therefore see more than on 16:9".

well I know what you mean but if both is 1080p then you see more to the sides of the 16:9 then on a 4:3 as both have the exact height. you only see up and downwards more at 1080p on 4:3 when you start to zoom out but that also could apply to a 16:9.

I can use the same logic again: if both are 1920 then you will see more on the top and bottom of 4:3 because both have the same width (really both statement are wrong - yours and this one).
But such comparison also incorrect. We should compare monitors with the same diagonal size.
And 16:9 will lose - its square will be about 7% less. Because of that professional monitors nowadays often has 4:3 or even 1:1 aspect ratio.
Why 16:9 (or even 21:9) models so widely used? Reason is simple - they have less matrix area and consequentally they are cheaper to manufacture.

well yes but both his monitors he asked about are 1080p monitors and you measure the vertical pixel not the horizontal. but that what i said with "I know what you mean".
Funnily, for desktop, 1400×1050 is the resolution in this case, while for television / youtube, it's either 1440×1080 or 960×720. Also, for those who are curious, the widescreen display of 1400×1050 is not 16:9, but 16:10 / 8:5 [1680×1050], which is also my native at the moment.

aspect ratio (width:height)
16:9, 16:10, 4:3, 5:4 are standards

you can use any ratio tho with a custom res, but many games do not support custom res
you can fix by using game config mods or gpu scaling to stretch

if you want black bars, set gpu scaling to centered or scale (keep aspect, and fill screen)
or the monitor may have settings on how to deal with non native resolutions
