Most games do not support Sony controller, and the support for layout is even far less, as barely any game does this, which you can find mods for a few games that you can custom change the image layout. Also Steam supports the PS4 controller, with big picture mode.
If you can return that controller, I recommend getting an Xbox 360, or Xbox one controller, as they're supported by the majority of games. But if it must be a Sony controller, then go for the PS4, if not, then you're going to have to put up with the fact that it have to be emulated as a Xbox controller, or as a 3rd party generic controller to even work.
But if you don't know the button mapping for an Xbox controller, then look it up. Should take you 5 minutes to learn. Problem solved
