ps3 controller shows up as xbox controller
i recently got myself a nice playstation 3 controller & plugged it into my pc. it works fine, doesnt have any issues. but my pc is convinced this the controller is for xbox, so whenever i play a game with the controller & the game wants to give me tips on how to play, itll say something like "press A to cut a ♥♥♥♥♥" or something. this is really confusing, as i do not have any "A" buttons on my ps3 controller.

is there any way i can tell my pc whats actually plugged into it?

Yea, there is no "Sony" overlay for buttons for most games; thats just how it is.

There no official support for PS3 controller by Sony, or anyone. The only way to get them to work with a PC is to emulate it as a Xbox 360, or as a 3rd party generic controller.

Most games do not support Sony controller, and the support for layout is even far less, as barely any game does this, which you can find mods for a few games that you can custom change the image layout. Also Steam supports the PS4 controller, with big picture mode.

If you can return that controller, I recommend getting an Xbox 360, or Xbox one controller, as they're supported by the majority of games. But if it must be a Sony controller, then go for the PS4, if not, then you're going to have to put up with the fact that it have to be emulated as a Xbox controller, or as a 3rd party generic controller to even work.

Quick question. Does it work? If yes, then you are good to go.

But if you don't know the button mapping for an Xbox controller, then look it up. Should take you 5 minutes to learn. Problem solved
