From i5 to i7 for VR and game
Looking to get an answer for this, but how much better can I expect performance to be if I upgrade from and i5 3.4GHz to an i7 4.0GHz using my GTX 1060 6GB? I already run VR great but for bigger games coming such as Doom and Fallout 4 and Payday2 to VR how beneficial will this upgrade be? Also, would there be any additional wattage consumption from swapping processors?

You'll get a large difference, and OC'ing the i7 will widen the gap even further.

The power consumption will go up, but not by much.

Which i5 do you have?

6th or 7th Gen i5 + 970 or 1060 6GB can do VR just fine.

It depends which CPU you have and what you're planning to upgrade to. Generally upgrading your GPU will increase performance in games unless your current CPU is bottlenecking.

not sure yet without googling. I think that i5 hasent the 1151 socket so if you upgrade your CPU you need to change MoBo too. PSU is more then sufficient to support it even tho I dont understand why you have a 750W PSU when using a 1060.

Had to upgrade from a 450, that had a great price, would last long, and was simply available. My tech shop is super limited on parts

Look around for 4790K and then put a decent cooler on that CPU and you should be fine.

Otherwise you're going to need to change Motherboard + CPU + RAM to something like LGA-1151 Z270 with an i7 + CPU Cooler + DDR4 RAM
