Connect what separately? We pretty much always use separate speakers or headsets; who uses the GPU Audio on a Gaming PC, EVER!?
What sync issues? There never is any; if u have that, its your PC.
Cause then with analog audio, your onboard audio handles that, not your GPU.
When you use HDMI/DP audio, your GPU does all that audio, rather then your onboard audio codec or sound card.
In fact, I literally just tested it out just now on my GTX 1080 to reconfirm and it does indeed still work.
But yea through adapter it can work.
Best bet is just use Audio Out from your Motherboard or Sound Card; since this allows much much better features; something u will never have from GPU Audio.
