DVI to HDMI with audio
So I'm planning to connect my PC to my TV which is 7m away. I have GTX 750 Ti. Basically it'll go like this:
PC DVI port -> Generic 10m DVI-D cable -> Generic DVI-D to HDMI adapter -> TV HDMI port.. Then speakers are connected to my TV.

Will it work? I mean will I be able to get video output on the TV and audio from the speakers which are connected to my TV? Thanks.

DVI doesn't carry a audio signal so no it will not work.

In my experience, at least with Nvidia cards, if you use a DVI-to-HDMI adapter, audio will be carried over as well. You should be fine with that configuration.

Actually DVI to HDMI audio can work since Nvidia GTX 2xx series. That took me totally by surprise with GTX 550 Ti DVI to HDMI cable connected to my HDTV (which likewise worked later with GTX 750 Ti). I was using digital audio with wireless headset and when batteries wore down and I unplugged the wireless dongle, my Linux system automatically switched to using digital audio to my TV (which worked). I normally use analog stereo for PC 2.1 speaker system with subwoofer. So it was noticeable that sound was coming from the TV and not my normal speakers. People who have not tried that may not realize it is possible. Of course audio settings in your OS need to be set for proper output device.

See this section of DVI wiki:

According to the official standard. But Nvidia's (common sense) approach to it does.

so OP, did it work or not?

It doesn't work; u can't select DVI as the Audio Output Source in NVIDIA Control Panel; regardless of how u try to output your DVI. This features has basically been ridden from the tech market, cause no one ever cared about it.

You would need a mixer for video and audio, or if you use speakers other than the ones built in to the TV you can connect them separately and hope they stay synchronized

Connect what separately? We pretty much always use separate speakers or headsets; who uses the GPU Audio on a Gaming PC, EVER!?

I ment connect the audio to the speakers directly from the pc, not through the TV

Yea thats what I was saying; Gamers pretty much always do that.
What sync issues? There never is any; if u have that, its your PC.
Cause then with analog audio, your onboard audio handles that, not your GPU.
When you use HDMI/DP audio, your GPU does all that audio, rather then your onboard audio codec or sound card.

I have had sync problems running a vga to hdmi adapter with separate audio because of a slight delay in the converter

You shouldn't use VGA, ever.

If it's DVI by itself, then you're right. But I'm speaking from experience that it does work when using a DVI-to-HDMI adapter.

In fact, I literally just tested it out just now on my GTX 1080 to reconfirm and it does indeed still work.

Oh, right... sorry I was confused about DVI to DVI...

But yea through adapter it can work.

Best bet is just use Audio Out from your Motherboard or Sound Card; since this allows much much better features; something u will never have from GPU Audio.
