Just because everyone has Dota2 doesn't mean they won't play TF2.
If anything I would find lower player count games and help add to their community.
As long as it isn't 0. Which means it doesn't work and steam saved a customer who will continue to buy other games. Instead of never buying one from them again.
That isn't Steams problem.
And besides that, I don't think people play just one game. I own TF2 and I know more people play that than they do SMNC. Yet I play SMNC way more.
I've even played LIMBO more than I play Skyrim at one point. Knowing full well there are less people playing one game than in the other.
I just don't think it's that big of an issue to show that data.
And if Valve belives it is a problem, then that is unfortunate.
Because they will continue to take the heat when someone buys a defective game that has 0 players and didn't realize it had game breaking issues. Stupid customer, yes. Most are.
But stupid people still buy games. Steam loses more potential sales from that backlash it creates. Or at least those people have their guard up when they think about buying another.
If customers have to be cautious about what they buy from you, that is a problem.
Steam shouldn't care about how many players there are in this or that game. All they care about is that the games sell. Ideally for the right reasons.
Steam shouldn't take the brunt of bad pr from a developers issue.
Couldn't be any more true.
I would rather have the data over some troll.
That right there is the 'failed flag' system brought up in the other post.
Good plan.
Here's why I don't think this would work.
There are too many variables.
For instance, I have some really good games I bought recently that I've barely played. Does that make them bad? No, but the stats say otherwise.
If a player cannot through their inexperience get a game to work, it doesn't make the game bad, though the stats show otherwise.
The main thing I can see this for is whether a game has a large fanbase for if you want to play online or not. However, if you needed to know that, they already have a pgae for it, which is more then you'll find in your local Gamecrazy.
Not hating on you or your idea, just my opinion.
Ok now that I understand. The market is just too flooded and user count doesn't match up.
I would go into database filtering out those that actually play it but that changes the whole concept anyhow.
