Personalized/Custom status messages

I would really like to see personalized/Custom status messages (I mean the messages like: Online, Away, Busy and Offline)

Sometimes putting it on busy won't make people stop chatting with me (sometimes I want to chat with a certain person, so that's why I don't go offline)

Anyway.. that's my idea :)
Throw in some ideas/comments if you want :D

I'm sure you know what I mean...

I don't want to block everyone who starts telling me their whole life when I just want to do some homework and ask some friends through chat for help

The thing is, is that I'm way to friendly, and respond to the chats even if I know I won't finish my homework on time because of that...

And besides that...It's not that hard to make an option like this...
Google Chat has it.. Skype has a similar function... Lot's of forum software has it too

It's not but you still have yourself to blame for this. It says you're busy, why do you respond to them? You're busy... I'm nice toward my friends too but if I am busy, I am busy... If you talk to them, all they see is that you're busy but apparently not enough to not talk to them. Logic...

If I can put up a status saying: Doing homework , then they won't bother sending me a message saying: Hey dude! what's up! blah blah blah...

That's all I'm asking... If they know that my Busy status has no difference from Online with me.. then maybe that way they know what I want to tell them :)

Where do you see I am changing subject? You ask for personalized status because apparently you nor your friends know what "Busy" mean. I am not against it mind you, but it remains true. Let's say you put "Doing homework." If someone talk to you and you talk back to them, what does it mean? It means you are busy doing homework but apparently not enough to not talk to them.

Overall, the personalized status idea is nice but really, learn your priorities lol... If you're busy, at least act busy.

Add a 30 character limit to custom statuses. Problem solved. I also love your idea, sometimes just saying you're busy is not enough.

Valve recently added looking to play and looking to trade, I wonder when they are going to implement customizable statuses.

Well I understood that part but yeah, it was not meant to offend you or anything. Just making this clear. I am still with you for personalized status, is all I say. Often, I wish there was this button where I can clearly input what I am doing, not for the same reasons but yeah. It could also be just for the cool title under my name. =3

Yes, they need to add text status messages. The ability to type your own.

e.g. "I'll be back in 5", "Be back later, L4D2 at 7?", "Not here. Really"

etc.
