german low violence versions
hi
i would like to buy uncut versions of games here in germany without chaning ips, accounts, buying giftcodes from ebay etc

saintrow 3 was on sale did not buy it
dead island was on sale did not buy it (oh wait i couldnt even buy it)
the list goes on

i bought modern warfare 1 a while ago, german version, i played it for 10 minutes because the german translations are awefull!!!!

i was very happy when i heard that left 4 dead 2 can be made uncut just by changing one number in a file. if every game had this feature i would not complain.

Speak to your Government and ask them to make the change. It's not something that anyone else can do!

(Also doesnt the L4D2 'fix' stop you from playing multiplayer with other users that don't have that 'fix'?)

so the german government has the ability to upload "fixes" making the game uncut? i did not know that.

yes thats true, well there are more players with this fix rather than without :)

He is saying your government is the problem. They block and restrict certain things steam can release and do. Region locks is one of them.

1) Your government is responsible for the laws which restrict content in your country

2) Publisher then provide said content to comply with those laws

3) Steam interprets said laws in a way such that they must provide only low violence versions in Germany

Want to fix the issue, talk to your government, they're the root cause.

if you really don't want those restricted versions then use a VPN, a proxy or you just go live in The Netherlands or any other country close to yours that is more free

Using VPN is against the SSA and will result in an account suspension.

Worst advice ever. That's the fastest way to get your whole account cancelled.

Awful suggestion. The correct suggestion would be to get a trustworthy american friend to buy games for you via gifting.

the problem is that there is no working age verification system in steam,
so steam only provides the "germanstyle cut versions" of games and users that are 18+years old can only download/activate the version for 2year old guys, where the chainsaw is replaced by a candystick and humans are replaced by robots or spongebob.

the german goverment is just like any goverment in other countries. They only do what brings them money or votes from people that have no idea whats going on.

some 60years old grandpas that never played a computergame saw some pictures of a 1st person shooter on TV. decided that these are "killergames" and the holy german goverment reacts by making a "child/teen protection gamelaw" that makes it nearly impossible to buy uncutgames for everyone who is 18+ because no company wants to build an adult section in their gameshop.

STEAM pleeeeeeeeaaaaaaaasssssseeeee implement a working age verification system!!!!!
its easy !!!!!!!!!!
it brings u more profit.

sorry for my bad english
guess what country im living in and what language i normally speak :-)

1) Won't help like said before
2) The publishers can't control the distribution channels - so also wouldn't work to ask here.
3) This is the only way of fixing it for (almost) every case - it's not like you aren't allowed to buy or own it if you are over 18. It's also allowed to sell it. It's just not allowed to advertise or sell it to minors. So an age verification system would solve it.

I have to bring this up again because I'm currently frustrated.

It is wrong that Steam is unable to do something. All they need is a trusted age verification system and as far as I can judge from other stores that sell uncut games it would be legal to only sell this games between 11pm and 6am.

The next thing is, that Steam currently breaks the german law. There are games available in germany that are not allowed to be sold (BloodRayne for example) and besides that, in germany you have to verify the age for every game, cut or uncut, USK 16 or USK 18.

All shops I know that sell 18+ stuff want a copy of your id card and that's it. Steam support would only need to check this once per account and a lot of pissed people would be happy and they would sell more games.

This isn't the German's governments fault, I can buy the 99% of the "low violence games" sold here on steam uncut either online (leagaly with age verification) or in any well sorted game shop (or your regular big electronic discounter) by just showing them my ID.

It's actually good that access to violent content is age restricted in Germany by law (at least IMHO).

Removing the age restriction isn't a good solution.

Steam is just to lazy to implement a working age verification (which would be trivial with every German ID card issued in the last 4-5 years and slightly less trivial with older ones (OCR an image/scan of the ID card)). Every German from the age of 16 up has an ID card.

I don't want to buy games sold as DVD as I no longer have an optical drive in my PC and I don't want to store optical mediums and install unpatched games anyways.
I also prefer English games as German syncronisation, while usually not terrible, is usually done cheaper than the original voice acting.
Buying local DVD games is NOT an option.

I also like Steam for their convinience and the great sales. I'd buy A LOT more if they'd implement a working age verification. (in the last months I didn't buy Borderlands, Fallout 3, some Valve games, Saint's Row, etc. to name a few)

it should really be easy to implement an age verification system like the german postident (e.g. lovefilm uses it for the same issue)

so please valve - you would really do the german steam users a huge favour - without breaking the law

Hi guys, I'm kinda new here so i wanna ask some quick questions. I'm from Indonesia and right now I'm doing an exchange program in Germany. I'm planning to buy some games from steam, since here you can buy Steam vouchers easily in Saturns and I have spare money.

So about the whole low violence thing there really isn't a way to overcome this? What about if I buy the vouchers, fill my Steam Wallet, and then ask one of my friends in Indonesia to log into my account and then click Buy, then I go download the game into my laptop here in Germany. That shouldn't be counted as 'buying in German region' right? Or will there be a problem, like for example the euro that I put in my account can't be used, etc.. I need help on this one

and also about this region lock thingy.. does that mean I can't play the games that I bought here in other country? I got the free L4D2, and it's DE. So when I return home can I still play this game?
