Privacy option (Hide hours played)
I would appreciate it if valve can look into putting in an option to enable people to hide their hours played on games. I don't like the fact that all my steam friends are able to see how many hours I've played for each game. Right now the only way to hide it is to make my entire profile private.

Then why add friends in the first place? What kind of friends are they that you are scared of them knowing how long you have played your games? You do realize they have a Steam account because they like to play games, right?

Don't be silly! Who here plays games anyways?

Jokes aside, the playtime logged is not really information that should be considered private. For the time being before if/until they implement anything like it, stop being silly.

Nobody actually cares about your playtime.

Whats big deal? To be honest I wouldn't bother playing on Steam if it didn't have time played count but I play just to get the number up and its interesting to see what other people have compared to me.

when u have 800 hours of a game in a few of months its not something to be proud of or want shown.

There are people with more hours in a shorter space of time.
Stop worrying, because no-one really cares - neither positively or negatively - about your playtime.

Hm, stupid question: Would the implementation of the suggested option have any negative results? The way I see it: There are people who would like to have this option (e.g. the thread starter) and people who wouldn't need it (most of the rest here). If there is no negative effect on those who don't need it, then why opposing it? That's like saying: "You should remove bananas from all stores, because I don't eat them anyway."

What is negative is going through with the hassle of implementing what isn't actually all that useful.

Just like the suggested in game media player/music manager, it wont really affect anyone negatively as it is up to you to actually use it or not, but there is more reason to work on solving issues and implementing what will actually be particularly useful.

I'm not against it, but I do deem it as somewhat useless for nearly everyone.

Much needed privacy option. My biggest dislike of using steam to play games.

I beleive i left my computer on when i left the house yesterday. It certainly says that I am "in-game" at the moment, even though im sat in an office.

That's another 20 hours in a game when i've actually been asleep or working or driving about. :P

It can actually create confusion amongst users.

If you see profile A then profile B people expect to see things in specific places. The more odd things you create options for the more jarring it is for users when they look at different profiles. This can generate support calls like "Why cant I see my friends <insert feature>. Also it makes things feel very inconsistent.
whats wrong with giving users that option? people have their reasons about their info displayed and thats their perogative. why do so many have to be a ♥♥♥♥ about peoples reasons for simple options?

Well said good sir.
Well the only reason a person would be annoyed by their time played being show has to be 1 that likes to cheat at games.
Thats the only reason i can see for getting upset about it tbh.

I'd like this privacy option because I have coworkers and even bosses on my friends list. They don't need to know how many hours I'm spending playing games.
