[Big Picture] A Simple To Use Joy2Key Functionality
First, I'm a sucker for slick interfaces. and as i have set up a pc dedicated to gaming, i've been wanting something like Big Picture mode for a while now. so thank you, valve!

Now, big picture mode so far is great. i enjoy browsing the web and steam with a controller for those times when i'm feeling extra lazy. and launching and playing games with controller support is a joy... but games without controller support...

granted, games without controller support arent really meant to be played with a controller (except for something like crazy taxi, how could you do that sega! i swear if jet grind radio hd doesn't.... grrr...) and you could get a wireless keyboard and mouse for cheap, but that kinda takes away from the slick and easy controller tailored design of the big picture.

so my suggestion is adding a simple to use joy2key type keybinding for steam. something that would have default keybindings that are set up for the game already, but would allow you to tweak them as you wish in or out of game. granted some games just really really wont work with a controller, but its nice to have a build in option with steam. so instead of having some games that i can launch and play with the controller, but then have tp switch to my keyboard, i could still lounge in my chair and game away!

the nature of big screen mode is essentially like that of a console. so basically, big screen mode is meant to be your user interface. windows and start bars are gone and your using a slick interface with a controller, relaxing your your sofa gaming. so you don't minimize big screen mode, you can only close. so lets say i want to play the binding of isaac, a game that works great with a controller, but is missing controller support.

well, im enjoying myself in big screen, browsing the web and i want to play some binding of isaac. well if i want to use my controller i need to start up joy2key. but because i can't minimize with the controlller, i have to close out of big screen and switch to my mouse. now i start up joy2key and hop back into big screen mode for some gaming. but now theres a problem. now joy2key is saying every time i press up down left or right on my controller i'm pressing w, a, s and d... well now i can't even use big screen mode with the controller!

but if steam had some kind of joy2key like functionality, it already hooks into the game and knows when i'm playing it, so it can turn on and off the keybindings so i can still use big screen mode, and play the game with a controller! i think it would be a logical addition to big screen mode.

Very good suggestion. I +1 this for sure. I think we could also easily implement a community hub for sharing profiles.
