"Music in game" widget in steam UI?
Ever play a game that doens't have your preferred choice of music and you end up playing music of your own instead using Itunes or Windows media player or Ubuntu One Music or whatever other media player you have? Well. I was thinking Steam could use a media player too!

I here by suggest a Media player widget TOGGABLE upon entering Steam in game UI that reads music from your My Music Library (or munally choosen folder through settings) and allows you to play said music and control which songs are playing. All that would be needed is a simple widget that can minimized that contains the simple controls nothing fancy, next, previous, play/pause, random/notrandom/repeat, all those normal controls we already know.

any one else onboard for this idea? :3 or am i wrong to think there ISN"T a music player for steam already available?

If you don't want this or agree with this idea DON'T POST ANYTHING NEGATIVE IN TURN, JUST BECAUSE YOU DONT' WANT IT DOESN'T MEAN YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO GET AN IDEA SHOT DOWN DUE TO YOUR OWN SELFISHNESS.

It's been a popular request for a long time. I think they will do it when they get more serious with music/movies distribution after Steam gets settled in living room and mobile space.

(is it still alowed to use "mobile space"... No buzzword police sirens yet so I'll leave it like that for now).

well i don't want movies on steam. That's completely out of the question for me and has nothing to do with gaming in general. Music in the background of my games however is something i like and most people would agree on that some games music sucks.

Why does Steam need a widget a simple Alt+Tab will do?
Maraio1 Sep 18, 2013 @ 11:27pm
Because some games crash when you Alt+Tab out and back in

exactly. give us a WMP plugin or Itunes Plugin or a generic plugin that lets you choose which media player you wish to link it to sort of like a custom shortcut or something.

Not only do some games crash when you alt tab but some games cause the media player in the background to crash when alt tabbing. I know when im listening to some of my favorite videos using VLC media player VLC crashes on quite a few of my games and it aggitates me to no end. Not saying they should put a video player widget in the UI but just giving an example of some programs that crash due to alt+tabs.

I'd like to see this as a kind of cloud thing. You buy a game on steam, it opens the soundtrack to be played on other steam games.
OFC, that would mean more soundtrack released on their own... Valve could take control of music as well as games distro :plane:

uhm but not everyone wants to listen to game music the entire time Deepcapture that's the point. I'd like to have the choice in what music im listening to with out always Alt+tabing with the off chance of my game and or media player crashing right after ALt+tabbing just to relaunch either or or both in some cases. so the best way to go about it is to create a generic looking widget with the simplist buttons of

pause/play
skip(next)
back(previous)
repeat(repeat 1, repeat all)
shuffle (random)

and as soon as you launch the widget from the Steam UI steam seraches for all media players you have installed on your computer and asks "which would you like to control using this widget" and itll automatically launch said media player if it isn't already launched allowing you to control the basic music playback functions with it. see the music wouldn't be played from with in steam itself but rather the media player. It would just be CONTROLLED from with in the steam UI.

Use pandora or grooveshark or spotify in the UI web browser
Fyuri Sep 22, 2013 @ 12:07pm
Spotify?
Matymus Sep 22, 2013 @ 12:44pm
that would take too much effort just to do it and i don't want the dam browser always taking up the entire screen when i shift+tab. why does every idea i come up with someone has to always say "use the browser" UH DER!~~~~ seriously if it's trolling shut up because every single idea i've come up with someone has said it and it pisses me off because not everyone wants to use the dam browser for everything. and i don't want to use internet radio i want to play MY music FFS not randomized music from a station based on the genre i pick!
Maraio1 Sep 22, 2013 @ 1:14pm
I would just love to play MY music, with-out ads, with-out any more stress on my internet connection and with-out Tabbing out, and most likley crashing my game.

grooveshark lets you handpick songs for playlists. it's not like pandora
Matymus Sep 22, 2013 @ 10:37pm
A:it still requires internet access while steam itself has offline mode so if you're playing your games while on vaca for instance you can't use grooveshark because yet again...requires internet access.....
B: still requires the use of the web brower which means you can't CLOES the web browser once you load up grooveshark so every time you shift+tab to steam UI itll require you to stare at the web page and re\size it or move it to the side to gain access to anything else in the UI. I want a one shot quick fix for this issue not a work around that requires addotional work and internet to boot.

Is that too much too ask of Valve?
Hope not
Matymus Sep 22, 2013 @ 11:47pm
well aparently it's about as much to ask as a facebook chat option too. People keep saying facebook has no place here on steam yet they fail to realize screenshot upload comes with a facebook link option so clearly facebook has a place on steam too yet ignorant fools will argue the matter and keep spit balling work around options for those who want it much like these people here keep doing for music controls. They'd rather do the more complicated and frustrating work around rather then get a one shot perma fix to the problem and make those who want these features upset in turn because they are trolls looking for kicks and trolls are some of the loudest people in gaming thus get more attention than us legit gamers who just want features to make ♥♥♥♥ easier for us.
