No idea why valve would attempt such a suicidal business venture when the handheld market is currently being dominated by Nintendo, android, and apple.

well what he said on his 3rd point made it sound like it would just be a app for the psp vita and 3ds . i dont think nintendo and sony would be to keen on a middle man . they would just make a deal with the developers/publishers

sadly its not even that easy since things would have to be made compatable because of different os and system specs

purchases for your pc through steam on a "portable" could be possible but not likely unless you count a apple smart phone as a portable system since it would just be advertising that there are alternatives to spend your money on

NDS is the main money maker for nintendo, what really is getting wrecked is the Wii U.

The main issue raelly is the next iteration. Most people now have a mobile gaming plaform

Their phones.

Why would anyone need to carry an 'extra' device 'just' for gaming. It's almost redundant. The NDS is probably the last cycle where Nintendo owns the handheld market. Goign forward they're going to have a very very very hard time convincing people a separate portable gaming device is necessary.

Nintendo has always succeeded due to their games. If they can make a game that people are willing to buy systems for, then they will succeed in the mobile market. The Wii U bombed not because the other systems were necessarily better, it bombed because it didn't have any enough worthwhile games.

The phone may be on the rise, but the games on it has been almost universally garbage and not fit for the core gaming audience.

Until the phone can get better games, gaming specific handhelds will stay alive.

How many genres of games can you even pull off with touch controls? Phones are rarely designed with physical gaming controls in mind.

thats true in some ways, hardcore gamers need special controls or a gamepad but most casual gamers who used to buy a portable console just to spend some time on gaming while travel or something are done with a phone or other touch device.

you cant compare a full length nds game with most games on a mobile phone, but not everyone is looking for that....

i also think, portable consoles for the mass market are done...
