Why can't we unrate things in the workshop?
Say I rate something up, but then change my mind. I can only rate it down, then; I can't remove my rating.

People will troll the system i think.

How? Rate everything up, then once it gets popular, remove their ratings? That would take quite a concerted effort, the likes of which could only be accomplished by Something Awful or 4chan...
Make something....then your perspective will change....

That still doesn't explain.
I'm a gamer and Steam user, not a Valve Developer..

99.9% of the people you are expecting to post on here are Steam gamers not Valve UI developers.

It is the way it is, that's why. If you are still not satisfyed, go to Steam support and tell them. This isn't even a suggestion or an idea anyway.

Well, sorry, but I don't exactly have direct access to a Valve UI developer! I thought maybe asking the question would elicit an answer, even if that answer is just a wild guess, but apparently all it elicits is flames.
If you make something of your own....you might not have this dilema bugging you, as you will be glad that you are getting thumbs up..... I basically showed you a way of helping yourself and not just doing the work for you. Does that explain my post?

I thought Steam support was all but shut down in favor of these forums, and they only listen to people with actual bug reports and hacked accounts, not suggestions...
I was in a grumpy mood, sorry bud. Well, It is a good question, really. Wonder if it applies in the same way as on Youtube?...

A sort of 'thinking out loud' question. I understand. Like, for me, I have some items on the WS and I like the way it is. That's what I mean by if you had an item that was being rated, you would prob like it if they rated you one or the other, and not remove it...know what I mean?

Maybe... I also wouldn't want folks to be stuck with whatever rating they give me. I mean, yeah, if they gave me a downvote, they could change it to an upvote, but what if they don't actually *like* my content?
I understand. You're completely right. Kinda like Pandora's box..once opened that's it, no closing it and forgetting about it. This, as you rightly believe is not the way it should be..

Okay. Suggestion, VALVe...make it so you can UN-VOTE stuff! :P

To me that is a good thing, you have one chance to make an opinion, not just click a rating to make a rating, it almost helps review whatever it is you are rating better by reading / watching it before helping with a rating. To change one, I don't see why someone would need to change their rating. If they liked it to up vote in the first place, they wouldn't need to down vote. And no one would done vote something they have not yet tried or watched / read to give it their rating. If you see what I mean

Two years have passed, yet the suggestion was never implemented.

So let me suggest it again – the ability to “remove” own ratings on reviews, artwork and whatnot.

Just in case Steam devs actually are lurking in these threads.

Yet another year has passed, and this is still a problem.
