Remove Yugoslavia from profile country selection and add separate countries

Is there any particular reason why Yugoslavia is still in profile country selection even though it doesn't exist any more, and countries like Serbia and Macedonia are not?

These countries exist when making a purchase, so I think it's only logical for them to exist in profile management as well.

I believe selecting a proper country as a player is just as important as selecting the same country when making a purchase. Is it not?

If you don't care about your nationality that's your problem. I assure you there are MANY people around here (including me) who are proud to be of whatever nationality they may be, and want to display it. And if they don't have the opportunity that hurts their national identity.

The most important point being that their country is important enough to select when making a payment but not important enough for a player to showcase.

Well it doesnt bug me at all,I'm from Bosnia and herzegovina and i can pick it i have a friend from Serbia too and he can pick Serbia here too, i don't know what is the problem.

It is a bit silly that if the country does not exist even could be chosen or I believe it ... it looks like to me a logical request

@Butcher: Sorry, I didn't mean any disrespect. It just seems to me that it is easier for someone to pick a random country knowing that at least their country is in the list. My country is not even listed so picking a random country seems forced. And no one likes being forced.

@[Mantis]ARSON: Are you sure? Unless the list is created dynamically based on your location (which I don't believe it is) Serbia is NOT in the list. Bosnia and Herzegovina is though. Perhaps your friend had Yugoslavia selected as well? Or maybe had "Republika Srpska" selected as a State?

The reason is Valve doesn't care. They can't be bothered with updating those flags. That's what they said.

They never said that. Valve have though said that they could update the country entry manually but each time some part was updated that or those lines would go away.
This is because they use a list from a certain source that everyone uses I think. That list just hasn't been updated but when that list is updated it will be updated on Steam as well.

@Zefar: I was thinking about the same thing. The entries in the dropdown could be coming from another source. However, if that's the case, then why don't they just use the same source as they do for payments. It seems that one is updated and has no issues with any countries from what I could tell.

If I had to guess, it isn't updated just because no one has complained yet. Or maybe not enough people have complained. That's why I started this thread, I was hoping that maybe it will get their attention and they'll fix it. Not like it's a game stopper for me, but I have had discussions with number of people who all find this a tad annoying.

At the bottom of every page it uses a site called Geonames.org, I've always wondered what it was. Although that site doesn't seem to have Yugoslavia listed as a country, maybe there's been a delay in the updating of it.

Nice catch! I didn't notice that myself. It's possible that they need to re-sync with them or something.
