Hotkey for answering voice calls
Me and a few others on my friends list have discussed and we believe a hot key to answer a voice call is needed. Its really terrible if you're gaming and are in a fight and someone calls you. You have to:
A) Pause and window down to answer
or
B) If youre in multiplayer (almost always me) listen to the annoying ring endlessly.

All that is needed is a simple button, f10, anything really (preferably moveable) to answer while in game. I even have games I've bought off steam that crash when tabbed down. So answering a call without tabbing would be pretty beneficial.

I couldnt agree more, the only failure of steam as far as I can tell is there is no way for me to use a simple button press to answer an incoming call that i can map to my gaming periferals such as my wireless headset or keyboard.

PLEASE STEAM MAKE THIS HAPPEN... imagine it wireless headset off to the kitchen then someones calling me in my head and I have unassigned buttons on my headset waiting to simply press "answer" on my G930 headset

I'm bumping this because it would be very useful for the MAJORITY of people on steam. I'd much rather hit a keyboard hotkey to answer a voice chat call than pull up the steam overlay mid game or find the steam chat hidden behind other open windows on one of my four monitors.

Anyone with programming knowledge think this may be easy or hard? My guess would be easy. It sounds like a simple macro creation?

It would be non-trivial, if you had to bring up the overlay first (Shift-Tab) and then hit some hotkey to answer that would be not too complicated.

It's more the creep of function keys that would be the problem, any key you assign for this answer call is one less key you have for the game itself. And any key you pick will probably already be in use by something.

I agree, it's silly there isnt a shortcut key to answer voice calls within Steam. It would be extremely useful and is a nuisance to hit shift-tab mid game or find the Steam chat window when doing other things within Windows.

It doesnt have to be just for in game either. It can be for simply working within Windows and there are no shortage of keys that could be used especially if you use G-keys or other gaming peripherals.

Is there anyway we can get a default shortcut key for answering voice calls that can also be configured to a key of your choice as well as toggled on and off?

Thanks Gabe, Make it happen

I gotta disagree. Right now, we are in-game hitting Shift+Tab and then moving the mouse to the button. Quickly tapping some random F key or whatever makes sense to assign would be faster and more convenient.

For me personally, I just hate dragging my mouse across 4 monitors to answer the call and then dragging the mouse right back. It's a waste of time, plain and simple. A keyboard option would be faster, even if I had only one monitor. Pressing one button is faster than aiming the mouse, or more likely alt+tab first and then aiming and clicking.

Recka is also right about the assigning not being a problem. It could be optional and you could even allow a custom key of your choice to be chosen. So that's just moot.

What I'd really love is to be able to map a hotkey to my G930 headset so I can answer the call while playing on the Steam Link. If a hotkey function is enable in Steam the Logitech Gaming software will let you map anything to the buttons on the headset.
Just press Enter.
