Guild Chat Overlay

Isn't it possible that Steam might provide guilds with a chat overlay so they can text each other regardless of which game they are currently playing? So many guildies lost along the way because some left one MMO or moved on to another MMO and others left to play exclusively single player games.
Doesn't have to be fancy as long as it will work on top of any game regardless of whether you have that game via Steam or not.

You can have group chats with Steam Groups. Would this fit the bill?

It wouldn't be a persistent channel though, right? And it wouldn't be 'Always on top' which means you'd have to call it up to see what anyone was saying, in which case you might as well tab out and use w/e else you are using. And we all have games that still crash on tabbing out (Skyrim, I'm looking at you!).

Also a guild chat is sorted by members of a guild which are not always equal to all of your friends.

I don't think Valve will make any part of the Overlay, such as a chat window, be "always on top" because it would block some of the game screen. However, group chats are able to be used in the in-game overlay (therefore, no Alt-Tab which means no Skyrim crash!).

When I'm saying "group chat", I'm meaning the chat room that Steam Groups have. Create a Steam Group for your guild, have it invite only and ask people to use the chat room in that group. :)
