Steam Group Abbreviations

When making a Steam Group you have to choose an abbreviation, which is up to four letters long. This Function seems to be pointless because all the conceivable simple combinations of letters are already taken by the countless amounts of steam groups already existing (active or not). If I have a group of a few friends and we like to identify with a three letter abbreviation, why does it matter if some other group has it? I suggest making it so a steam group abbreviation can't "already be taken".

First of all, I posted this suggestion a year ago, a lot has changed since then.
1) The 12 character limit is new, it used to be limited to 4 a year ago.
2) It used to be limited to just letters a year ago.
3) The number of combinations possible is irrelevant to my point.
4) Good for you being able to find a unique one amongst the "40^12 combinations available", but that's also irrelevant to my point.
5) This isn't a matter of effort or "whining". My point was that if myself and a few friends wanted to have a team and be identified by a common tag and have that tag show up in game, there are so many different types of teams as well as pre-existing steam groups with said tags, that making ownership of tags exclusive to each steam group is unnecessary.

I tried to put an abbreviation with these in it> ｢｣
It kept returning an error: Group abbreviations must be between 1 and 12 characters in length...
But it was 10 characters ._.

well I've wasted 4 hours, approx 200 abbreviations and it still rejects everything but it's only letters, WHY VALVE WHY?

Try putting a comma after it. I tried xR but it didn't work, so I chose xR, :D

i tried to put the name 𝔩𝔢𝔤𝔢𝔫𝔡𝔰 but it says its been taken already which ik isn't true and it said the characters could be invalid???
