Unorganized games REALLY PISSES US OFF.
OK seriously, Im PO'd and annoyed. I hv the entire tomb raider collection, and because of the odd names, it looks like a mess. 6 is first because of the word angel and no 6 before it. all the numbers for them are I's so they come after anniversary and angel. chronicles doesnt have a 5 in it. 4 is called the last revolation, coming after anniversary and legend. FML FOR REAL. Just name these games properly. and I know there are plenty of othe rpeople who have games unorganized as well. off the top of my head would be Assasins creed series. NOW.... I UNDERSTAND WHY THEY DONT ADD RENAMING GAMES, BECAUSE PEOPLE WILL TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT, FOR EXAMPLE
http://nifgaming.eu/forums/showthread.php?2534-Renaming-Games-on-Steam-Priceless
but the least they could do is listyen to us and rename games. They may not care if their library would be unorganized but WE, THE CUSTOMERS DO! and I have slight OCD issues so it bothers me imensley. PLEASE VALVE..LISTEN AND FIX NAMES. IM SURE THERES A BIT OF WORK TO IT, INVOLVING APP NUMBERS AND WHATNOT, BUT I KNOW IT CAN BE DONE! we appreciate numbers, not roman numerals. thats annoying to the organization, if another game in the series doesnt have a number, because if the 6th game in a series has no 6, but has an A, that means it comes before the others. This is common sense. Get it right. please.

I understand you can merely add a game as a non-steam game, but then that makes it feel unoffical, you cant acces game hubs and online info, and uploading screenshots becomes a PAIN IN THE ♥♥♥!

The names I've come up with that are more official than what they are are:
Tomb Raider 1(1 is because of the reboot coming out)
Tomb Raider 2
Tomb Raider 3: Adventures of Lara Croft
Tomb Raider 4: The Last Revelation
Tomb Raider 5: Chronicles
Tomb Raider 6: Angel of Darkness

and leave the others the way they are

also perhaps what could be done instead is some coding to organize SPECIFIC games in a different way that only partly involves alphabetical. Like tomb raider 4 is alphabetically placed correctly, but still comes before anniversary and legend. and is placed before 1-3, but befor chronicles, despit having a T in The last revelation(which comes after C). The nThe new one will come after Underworld, even though alphabetically it comes before all of em. I honestly think this second Idea would work better. It just involves A lot of work from you Valve. PLEASE DELIVER ON THIS IDEA!

EDIT
due to a commented idea, I believe a Drag N drop Feature would be the best way to go to fix this, If any valve worker is reading this, please mull it over an consider.

Doesn't work in every case, sometimes games are simply named badly, and then there's the issue of reboots with even more stupid names.

Simple one that you refer to: How would the Assassin's Creed games be ordered? They should be -
Assassin's Creed (not available in Steam)
Assassin's Creed II
Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
Assassin's Creed: Revelations
Assassins' Creed III
but alphabetical order breaks that of course. If Brotherhood was retitled "AC3:Brotherhood" to get the order, then you'd end up with "AC5 III" is all sorts of wrong! Plus, since AC isn't on Steam, should we start with "AC1: II" or "AC2: II"? No workee.

How about the Prince of Persia games? There are two that are entitled Prince of Persia! (fortunately the first again isn't even available on Steam, but I'm sure there are others in a similar boat)

Do we include sideshoot games in the list? Where? Some people like them in the primary games list, some like them after. OCD triggers either way.

Ordering by release date doesn't work either, since Steam's idea of release date is "release date on Steam", and no use for the Tomb Raider games for example.

All in, allowing drag'n'drop list reordering by the user seems the only way to do this. This avoids alphabetical order issues entirely.

well assasins creed, was not my problem. I believe the problem was one of em had a number, and the other roman numeral. Not sure and i cant remember where the screenshot was from. But I do LOVE the drag and drop, I think that would be even better than my last idea.

Yeah, the gategory for the games are completely off the balance. They suggest anything despite what you have in your store.

? not quite sure what you mean. not trying to be an ass. It may just be the way you worded it, but are you even posting in the right disscusion. that doesnt seem even remotley relevant to this. We're talking about how the names of games dont organize properly in libraries, not the recomendations in the steam store.

While I agree that games being out of order can be annoying in your Steam Library, I just wanted to say that the titles shown in the Game Library and in the Steam Store are the titles the publishers gave Valve to use. It's not really up to Valve to change those titles, so maybe it'll be worth talking to the publishers regarding this issue? :)

and I completley understand circumstances like that. That being said, I had already before your post added an edit saying the best solution would be to add a feature for drag and drop organization in the library. I just hope valve sees this discusion and takes action(probably not, but I can hope)

um: people do realize that: the name of the game in the library is not the responsibility of Valve, but the responsibility of the IP holding, and mostly has to do with IP rights, and so on

essentially Square Enix owns the rights to Tomb Raider VI: The Angel of Darkness. they do not own the rights to Tomb Raider 6: The Angel of Darkness which under copyright law could be viewed as something completely different, so even if the IP holders were allowed to change the names technically they wouldn't necessarily have rights to said game.

now that is why the better idea is the ability to manually reorganize our library is the better idea. because there are even some instances where games in a series are nowhere near each other in the alphabet because of their first letter (looking at you "the Ultimate Doom" filed under "T" for "The")

OMG WILL PEOPLE STOP COMMENTING WITHOUT READING THE WHOLE THING. I SAID THAT THE BEST SOLUTION WOULD BE TO HAVE A DRAG N DROP FEATURE.

AND BESIDES, WHAT WE MEANT WAS NOT TO CHANGE THE NAME OF THE GAME IN THE STORE, BUT IN THE LIBRARY SO THAT IS AN INVALID RESPONSE THE LIBRARY IS COMPLETLEY SEPERATE FROM THE STORE, AND IS MERELEY PERSONAL TO EACH USER.

Actually, they do. You're also confusing trademark and copyright law, they're different things. If tomorrow Valve came out with Tomb Raider 6: The Angel of Darkness, Square Enix could sue and win, even though they don't necessarily hold the trademark (theoretically, it's entirely possible that they do own the variations). It's enough to cause brand confusion and overall is a violation of Square Enix's copyright to Tomb Raider in general.

And, I actually agree with the OP's suggestion of dragging and dropping titles to wherever is appropriate. Although I try to ignore most of the incorrectly ordered product, I can't deny that it would be nice to put things in proper release or series order.

yea, I mean, I only said it 3 times throughout this, why shouldnt I be annoyed. Its not hard to read the entire post before commenting about that post. I really dont care much for your cinical comment, as I am justly annoyed at people commenting before reading the entire thing.

Civility is always a better way to do things. Raging at people will just bring them to not want to talk to you or if they do, you might not like their replies. At least from my experience...

But to be on topic, I'm not sure what you talk about. I have almost 100 games myself and all names are fine to me. They are ordered by titles of the games, nothing less.
gardian06 13 stycznia 2013 o 17:33
@Winchester7314 I was commenting on the original topic at hand first, and yes I did read the entire thread, and the "Drag N Drop" is just one form of manually reorganizing (instead of using a button driven interface, or click to add in order desired) as I was mentioning in the 3rd Paragraph of my post (Technically I have a better argument for you not reading my entire post then you for me not reading the initial post)

also that name in the library has to match either a reference in the Steam store/website (which has to match the name of the tittle that the IP holder has, or it could be referring to something completely different, and claims of tampering, and it just goes down hill from there), or must have a data marker of "added externally" otherwise it would not resolve correctly. not to mention that the initial statement was "Valve please rename these games so they are in order"

and from the intent of the initial post 'I can see the reason we are not allowed to name our own games LINK' these changes would have to made globally to all users Libraries. And the only thing personal about each person's libraries is that they were all leased to one user's account, and that is it.
