Make Big Picture Mode Touch Screen Friendly
I love the look of the UI for big picture mode. It looks great on my 55 inch running through my HTPC. One issue I have though, is that it could be a bit more touch screen friendly. I currently use my Android Tablet to remote in to act as a remote controller for the HTPC. Being unable to swipe the library to the side, or at least having arrows I could press, makes it difficult to use.
I know my issue may sound fairly uncommon, but with touch screen enabled devices becoming more and more prevalent, I think it should be taken into consideration.

Yeah, Especially Windows 8 now works for touch screen devices with the same OS. Some simple touch gestures would be pretty awesome :)

The thing is how are you playing games if you don't have a controller though? Not that it's a bad idea. Also technically since you're remoting in the remote session won't really understand the 'swipe' as an actual swipe action but simply a mouse movement.

Well there are different ways of implementing it.

  • You could do a click and drag. Right now I use Splashtop which has a mode where it jury-rigs the windows machine to touchscreen. Everywhere you press moves the mouse there instantly, and left clicks. Long presses become right clicks.

  • You could just put in arrows on the left side of the screen and the right, so you could press them on the screen to go left and right

  • I think it's Windows Media Center that has this, but you could turn on a mode that makes it so when you move the mouse to the left side or right side of the screen, the coverflow automatically begins scrolling that way, increasing the speed the farther over you go.

Apparently you don't understand the concept of a suggestion forums. It's where users post suggestions for Valve to incorporate into Steam. I didn't realize this was so difficult to understand.
Secondly, you can't just edit steam to do whatever you'd like. I cant just "make it myself". That's not how it works, hate to break it to you.

Lots of games on Steam support touch screen but both desktop client and big pucture stuck in mid-00s and almost unusable on touch screens. Is it really that hard to fix that?

Have to agree to this old request. Honestly it was made way back in 2012 and there is still no real progression on this front entering 2016. Some may say that having a touch friendly steam is useless due to far to many seeing at as only a platform for AAA titles
, but the truth is that with the greenlit program there are more and more titles that are both fun and quite frankly better suited to play on a tablet. Good games does not necessarily equal a performance hungry game after all. Oh and we do have the streaming ability in steam now so that opens up a lot of games for the tablet.

Honestly I manage without this functionality, but inly because I rely solely on desktop shortcuts on my win10 tablet. So I really do hope Valve will make a bit of effort to introduce this functionality to steam or maybe a windows store app to keep things separated?

In the absence of steam users with 10 foot arms, they're not going to make a 10 foot interface[en.wikipedia.org] touch friendly. And since both the number of games that are touch friendly, and the number of users with a touch screen are insignificant in light of Steam's total userbase, they won't be in a rush to cook something up for that.
Aurora Jan 9, 2016 @ 7:50pm
true, but that does not mean that there isnt a user base out there. while i agree that it should have lower priority than other areas, it should still be on the list. Especially seeing as how Microsoft is actually the only one with a significant increase in marketshare on the tablet market at the moment, it could be a new market that is simply untapped by valve at this point. as to wether or not they should be in a rush... really im a bit surprised that there have been no progress in the last 3 years, but then again that would only empasize your point I guess.

Still, it would be nice to have touch support as the interface itself actually really fits well for touch.
