Skype messaging in Steam overlay

It'd be nice if there was a way to send and recieve skype messages while in steam overlay instead of having to minimize a game to go open skype.

Never going to happen. If you have the skype contact on steam, just contact them through there. Or if possible, set the game to windowd-fullscreen mode (not a lot of games have this option) and alt-tab between Skype and the game. Or vice versa with windowed mode.

this will never happen as iirc Skype is owned by Microsoft now so the only platform (if any) it would be included on is Xbox Live.

that would be pretty awesome, steam should add that idea! if i am planning to play a game, and speak to my friends on skype at the same time, this is a best idea.

You do know that you can make voice calls on steam dont you ? as well as use free apps such as Discord ? which is really easy to set up and did I mention it's free ?

Not many people know there's a voice chat function on steam. I met quite a few who didn't know about it, they were somewhat new to steam, so it was understandable.

Anyways, back to topic: like trooper said, only discord can be used as an overlay as far as I know. And Skype always crashes with steam, or at least as far as I know a few others and I get crashed with Skype open.

Our community used to use Team Speak 3 as it was free with out Dedi box, but then we tried Discord and found it not only to be a better quality of voice and sound in general but also a lot more stable and it used less resources that the other voice communication services.

In 10 months of use we have had one server crash which affected every single discord channel, it lasted for 10 minutes and then went back to business as usual and has been running fine ever since and there is always someone on as we have members from all over the world (EU, UK,USA, India etc etc).
