Uploading Artwork to Games you don't own on Steam
Hey there,
just wanted to suggest that people should be able to upload artwork in the Community Hub to games they do not own on Steam.
People still can create art if they did not buy the game, aswell they may own it as a retail version or bought it elsewhere.
The restriction prevents that great artwork can be uploaded, just because someone does not bought a game on Steam.

Cheers!

I'm still wondering why Steam is trying to be deviantart

Agreed. Also for guides. I wrote some guides for games I played on another platform (PS3) and I posted the guides on GAMEFAQs so some people can read them. Too bad the Steam community can't read them in Steam because I can't upload them because I have to first buy the games again when I already bought them once for PS3. These are games that currently have no guides posted to Steam. Really amazing. Is it strange to think that they could actually sell more copies of these games if people see that guides are actually available for them? But no they just want to make a buck off me, the guide author who is just trying to give the guide for free.

I concur, and in doing so resurrect this dead thread. I have a bunch of fan art for games I own on other platforms, particularly Mass Effect, which I got into back when it was available for xbox only. Would be nice to be able to share it to the Mass Effect community, even though I don't own it on Steam.

Well, absoluetly right, I am still wondering why they won't implement it :/
Hopefully there is a change with the new Steam OS, they may update it when they release it.

Trolls & Griefers, mostly.
Giving troll accounts the ability of plastering their 'artwork' across all the gamehubs, regardless of which games they own isn't too advisable.

That seems a weak reason. This stuff has to be moderated anyway, afterall... trollers and griefers are no less likely to bombard hubs for games they legitimately own with crap or inappropriate content.

Well, why because of Griefers?
Steam already has a function that only accounts with games purchased in the last year can do most of the stuff? And with moderation and people reporting stuff there won't be that much spamming, as people who own a game can still spam the artwork page.

I agree. I finally drew something that isn't a piece of crap and I find I cant upload it to the Dark Souls art section cause I don't have the game.

Edit- Darks Souls was 80% off in Spring Sale so...

At the end of the day, Deviantart is the only option. Not a bad one either.
