STEAM 2014 Requested Functional Updates By Community
This used to be a place of civil suggestions and conversation. There has been way too much arguing about ideas and at each other that it has made me sick. So like most things that get ruined, all good things must eventually come to an end. Thanks to all that contributed and helped shape Steam into what it is today.

Get a badge for getting in-game achievements. Perhaps additional levels of the badge depending on how many achievements, or separate badges for achievements related to a DLC, like a Skyrim achievement badge, a Dawnguard badge, a Dragonborn badge and a Hearthfire badge.

1). It's either your internet or your PC
2). I agree, Steam should stack items if they're the same.

rev, good to see it's useful to some!

Suggestions:
1. Steam is too damn slow, as mentioned quite a few times here; faster=better.
2. Showing just duplicate items in inventory, as also mentioned before; sorely missing for too long.
1. Ofcourse it is. But it wouldn't be if Steam itself were fast enough.
And regarding (steam) client vs browser- the client always has the shortcut, loads only that which is needed, it's a specialised application versus a general purpose one; thus the client should always have the edge in speed.
2. Duplicate items; I'm referring to both filtering to show solely the duplicates and hiding the rest (including the 'original' of the dupe), and showing dupes as a 'x4' instead of four spaces -switch.

Oh yeah, that would be great for people who do perfect games
I would like a screen where I can see all my games in a list with percentages of completion of Steam Achievements. Similar to the Badges page, but for Achievements. I want to be able to easliy pick out what games I want to work on.

+3!
Something I would like to see is an option to have the Steam Friends list open automatically when Steam starts/logs in. I have an allocated space for it on my secondary screen, so it would be handy for me, instead of having to open it manually every single time.

Can't you just open it once and then leave it open? Or am I missing something? But won't disagree - the more options the better!

You might want the little friends panel to pop up with your client however you can go to Steam -> settings -> interface and then change favorite window to friends which will be the first thing it loads everytime. Not exactly what you want probably but a step up from nothing.
1 more thing to knock off the list: Add "Favorite Badges.

The badge showcase now has 4 options to choose from, including picking your own 6 to show off!
I would like to be able to send files over steam chat
I haven't played with big picture mode much until recently. I actually use a large screen as a primary monitor but sit close enough that my mouse/keyboard combo does what I want. I'm trying to get a set up going that would let me play games and use media with on a treadmill/exercise bike. Big Picture mode is perfect for one half of that which immediately led to some thoughts...

One feature I'd really like to see is a Media library. This, especially taking Steam boxes into account, could be a very important feature. Integrating a decent youtube player would be a huge move. A media browser/library a la Media Center capable of not only accessing the local machine but others on a home network. Then there is the obvious (and probably hardest) next move, content delivery. Perhaps partnerships with existing distributors like Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu.

One seemingly minor but important detail is scrubbing. I haven't used anything that can do this right with a remote. The Steam controller would be perfect. Sans a steam controller, a jump 30 seconds forward and 15 seconds back would work well. Scrubbing forward and backward at different intervals may sound unintuitive at first but is actually amazingly effective in my experience.

Community aggregated news/community feed. Essentially, reddit for steam. It's easy to miss certain things and discussion if you don't have a lot of time to scour the community. I think it would be cool to have a sort of single stop that would let you look at the most active parts of steam. There are people that can and want to contribute but don't have much time. On the news side, Steam already has this feature to some extent. A community driven feed would present problems as to filtering certain kinds of content but I think it could be done.

One small thing I'd like to see in the browser of big picture mode is better image handing in the browser. Let's say I'm browsing a site and click a link directly to an image. The image opens but I have to scroll like crazy because the resolution is three times that of my display.
The main priority is the speed, browsing on steam is so slow that sometimes i do it trough google chrome. '-'
Steam guard could have some convenience improvements that wouldn't cost security, such as when adding a new device instead of having to wait 15 days, confirm from an already trusted device after you add a new one. This is more secure AND more convenient; if I jack somebody's account I can just not use it for 15 days, he won't know, and I can scam/phish/create child pornography all from his account once the time is up! Having it be extremely limited access (more so than just no trading/community market) until confirming from a trusted device would be much easier and safer. Another thing, it seems unfair in general though that trading/community market are only for people who have their accounts on lock down, with Valve's private mini-secret service guarding it and accusing anybody who tries to enter the account of being a fraud. Scamming is the most widespread threat, and I don't see much of a difference between scamming from a jacked account and your own account (certainly more emphasis should be put on the latter, but the difference in this situation is chopper gunners vs. metal detector security). I understand security is important, just, try to keep it so I don't feel like I'm being treated like an accused terrorist...
