Let us play a game on pc, and on steam deck at the same time
I want to use my steam deck more often but I can't run a game on the deck while a game is running on steam. So I don't get to use my steam deck as much as I want. I know on my pc I can run multiple games at once, and figured having a more idle game on deck, or an active game on deck while my pc runs something automatic or something along those lines, Would be a super nice feature to have.

You can run multiple games on your PC because it is registered a single device and you are logged in. The Deck is a second registered device hence why you can only be logged in on one device.

Play offline on your PC is you want to game on your Deck while logged in and online.

It's working as intended.
The reason only ONE system can use an account at a time is to prevent someone from sharing their account with a friend.
If you want to run an idle game, just launch it and let it run in the background.
You don't need multiple devices to do this.

I tried running my pc in offline mode but it didn't work and still gave me the log out on my deck.

Wanted to bump this thread due to PoE 2 early access release.

Yes, it is currently working as intended. However, this is the suggestion forum. The goal of this thread is to suggest a change to the intended behavior for the benefit of the consumer.

Back in June you'd have need to be in the Beta but as of September Steam Families has been fully released so you can just do this:

Create a New Steam Account for your Steam Deck.

Create a Steam Family: https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/593110/view/4149575031735702628

With your main account and your Steam Deck account.

You will be able to play any of your main account games that are shareable on your Steam Deck while playing another game on your main PC.

The only restriction is you can't play the same game on both unless the Steam Family has a second copy of the game (on the Steam Deck or another account in the family).

It is a discussion forum for suggestions and ideas.
just make a new steam account for your deck, you could always swap accounts from pc to deck if you really wanted to, this way you could enjoy your deck and still be on your pc as your normally use.

often times you will need to download games onto your deck anyway to play it in offline mode. while the whole thing seems insanely difficult, due to steams own over sights. It doesn't have to be. If you have preowned games on your pc account swap it over or family share it with your new steam deck priority account.

in regards to this steam should of given everyone who bought a steam deck a passkey to allow a new account to access /link with current owned games from the purchasing steam deck account.

now that you own a steam deck welcome to DMR issues.

This doesn't work since the games i want to play together are black desert online and path of exile 2

Yeah I'm having to do this now, going to ask for a refund on my primary account. It's annoying having to keep track of an extra account just for 1 game on the deck

I am having the same issue. I bought a steam deck specifically for my more afk game and am extremely disappointed. As Darren suggested, family support is now here. This begs the question, why do we have the legacy behavior with the same profile? It makes no sense. Apply the same limitation for the same steam account or include it in the logic for the family sharing.

I've encountered this too! Why should I need a bypass to play two different games on two different devices when I can play the two games on the same device simultaneously just fine?

Left factorio on my PC whilst I wait for a package, hoping to do some chill steam deck gaming on other games, but no, it wants to boot me off factorio. So I'm being grumpy on my phone instead. (I'm going to look into the workarounds, but it's pretty obnoxious to need to!)
