Allow people to say the emulation version of the game it's better.
Kingdom Hearts forum banned me for 3 days for saying people should play the emulator version. Emulation it's legal if you own the copy and the game. No links were provided.
Square released a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ port.

OP. Go to a bar, . and start talking about how much better the bar across the street is. See how long before you get bounced across the street.
You'd probably be bounced by the regulars before you'd be bounced by the owner though.

Maybe because those in the forums that actually own the original are in a minority? Be glad they haven't sent your account a DMCA subpoena.

Now he's basically in the game forums bashing the game, this won't be the last of him we see I feel.

Don't blame the game devs for the review being banned. They can't ban reviews. They can only report it like we can.

Sadly true. You'd think a company with that type of weight to throw around would be able to get it right. But-- nope.

Steam can't exactly distribute a version of a game that the game developer hasn't given Steam to distribute, now can it?

If the copyright owner wanted to distribute an emulated version of their game on Steam then Valve would be just fine with it.

Steam allows it, as long as you're not discussing piracy or where to illegally download games.

The specific game's community hub has it's own set of moderators though, with it's own rules. They may disallow it, and that's their prerogative.
Slav Mcgopnik 23 JUN 2024 a las 12:04 a. m.
Developers typically do not like it when you try to encourage piracy of their game on its forums.

Yes I know, legally emulation is fine, and legally you can get ROMs from your own disc copies, but I highly doubt your post was only targeted at people who already owned the games and wanted to emulate them.

Gotta love the regulars. I think my favourite is the "No links were provided"...it's like you're saying the game crashes or whatever when certain hacks were used "I'M NOT SAYING I USE THEM THOUGH BUT PLEASE FIX". Or like that guy who complained about getting a permaban for using exploits and then went on a rant about how the people who made it possible that someone can exploit something shoukld get punished for enabling him.

These kinds of semantic games that people like to play should fall under freedumb of speech and get punished accordingly, I'm glad at least sometimes it actually happens. This plausible deniability bs is NEVER subtle but they keep acting like there's "done nothing wrong!". Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

His now banned review said the same exact thing. There were no semantics.

Developers should allow people to fee speech as long as they follow Valve rules.

And one of those rules is:

Don't discuss or engage in unlawful or prohibited activity
Any posts or activities that violate Steam's legal agreements are not allowed.

Examples of prohibited conduct include:

Encouraging or engaging in piracy or theft

Emulation isn't piracy; it is preservation and enhancement beyond the scope of the greed of corporations who refuse to provide the best possible form of both.

Except the forum thread was on the forum of the game that you can purchase right now. Meaning it wasn't suggesting emulating the game as an alternative to being sad about a game you can no longer obtain, it was suggesting emulation as an alternative to buying the game from the store that hosts the forum where the thread was posted.

If you walk into a candy shop and yell "the candy from the shop across the street is better" you're going to be asked to leave. Regardless of how legal that other shop's business model is.
