Dragon Age Origins Keeps Crashing
Hello, all.

I have had issues with DAO crashing- specifically during the origin story in at least the dalish elf, human noble, and circle of magi origins.

I have tried updating drivers, the 4gb patch, processor affinity, and the Force Directx 9 solutions but still no luck so far. I'm currently updating Windows 11 to the most current version but, if that doesn't work, what other things could I try to get this wonderful game working?

Hi, I have the same problem, when the game enters the loading screens, it suddenly closes completely.
Do you know of any solution to this?

Check your event viewer, click on Windows Logs, then Application. You'll want to look for a red exclamation mark labeled Error. Click that, and look for something like Faulting module path. The name will help you diagnose the error. If it says Umbra.dll, it can be fixed by changing the game graphics settings to medium, or possibly changing the affinity and priority of your CPU, as an example.

So I seemed to have figured it out. I set the graphics settings to their highest and the game is no longer crashing. I hope this helps someone in the same position as me!

that's aweful advice.
that did 100% not fix your issue.

from the "how to" guide mentioned above:

5. Try lowering your graphics/texture setting to Medium or lower. Try and see if this corrects your issue before continuing on down.

Reason: The game was originally designed for the max settings to be Medium and was not optimized properly for anything beyond that found in the present version.

6. Apply the 4GB patch to the game. For the Steam copy of the game, here are 3 options to choose from.

------------

These 2 things, done properly, will bring down crashes to a minimum.
People either don't actually apply the 4gb patch,
or they think they did, but they didn't do it right.
Setting the graphics/textures to medium on top of using the patch will give the best results.
Just by itself using medium textures will delay the crashes. You'll be able to play for much longer before a crash happens.

Giving Authorization ZERO gives them the right to use your social security number and your birth day. Its pretty common most days. I was born a ZERO'r so its no big deal.

Hey, how about someone post the "How to get the game to run better on Steam" without the contents list getting in the way when I try to read what it has to say........

Thank you so much! I had this same problem & tried everything - this was the only thing that worked. I don't know why it does, but I'm glad you figured it out for the rest of us o7
