There should be a way to get games from other platforms onto your steam account.
When i say this, i don't just mean adding them to the library with the "add a game" feature. There are many games on steam that need you to have 3rd party accounts to play, like Ubisoft games or EA games. But you can't link the accounts the other way. I have all the assassins creed games on ubisoft connect but I'd prefer to be able to see the games on my steam profile, rather than only having them through Ubisoft. but there's no way to link a steam account to the third party launchers. If there was some way to merge the libraries of the different launchers so that everything appears on steam, i think that'd be a better way to do things

There are programs that merge libraries into one. They still require the associated program/DRM to be running to open the game because all they are doing is merging the accounts.

Steam was never meant to be a 'hub' of all your games. GoG allows merging of libraries and another program I've used in the past call PlayNite does as well with a ton of customization options.

Ask the owners of said platform to give you another license to add to your Steam account.

Why should Steam give you a free copy of a game you've bought elsewhere? Where's the profit for Valve in not selling games?

Only the publishers can do that. Steam cannot give away copies of their licenses but they are free to do so.

And It works the way it works because the developers/publishers specifically set it up that way.
