Nothing from Social media should come to Steam.
Asking peoples Steam accounts is not difficult...
Oh heck no, I don't want people being able to look me up via my phone number or any other method that they do on social media. Keep that junk out of Steam.
If you know the person, ask them to send you a link to their profile via e-mail or social media or what ever, after all you already know them so ask what ever way you can. Asking them for it is not hard...
Just because its "boring" for you doesn't mean peoples privacy should be broken.
Finding people by phone # would just encourage random additions & stalking. It's bad enough the amount of spam calls & texts people get, let's not encourage scams by people trying to look for steam users by phone #.
Above that, in at least the EU it is matter-of-factly illegal to simply share someone else's phone-number with a third-party without the consent of the owner of the number. It is a violation of the GDPR. And yes; that affects private citizens as much as it does companies. (Look up how many people have been fined for installing and operating smart doorbells with a persistent always-on camera view aimed at public spaces, for another fine example.)
Or think it already is, yes.
More than a feature is a scam where you're given pennies for an information valued like gold.
Kind of happy that Steam, even with they shortness of privacy features still treats private information as actual private information.
that would invite scam and spam calls, of which i already get repeatedly everyday for years, which lead me to leaving my phone on do not disturb, so the only calls i hear are of those on my contacts, the rest i never hear.
would also invite stalking, doxxing, harassment and much more.
that all being said, steam isnt a social media platform, its a game store.
