I didn't do much trading outside of friends and I was getting 20+ invites a day. You might not think thats annoying but it was very annoying. People who were actually trying to trade with others, were getting 1000+ spam invites a day which made it very annoying.
This 5 dollar minimum was literally the only thing that stopped the spammers.
Now, who do you think Valve is going to bend to... people who spend money on their platform and want the spamming to stop.... or people who pay nothing and only take up resources....

Esas cuentas luego se usaron para estafar, engañar, robar y distribuir todo tipo de contenido en Steam a escalas gigantescas.

Y aunque no la mas amable si ha sido la solución mas efectiva.
When did that happen?

Short version, if you are going to spend money on Steam anyway, then you wouldn't even notice it. If you were never going to spend money on Steam ever, well then you have to deal with some limits.
