Australians do pay the same price as US, its just the exchange rate. Australian prices might be more but Australians get paid more for the doing the amount of work i.e: office manager in US average pay is $41,750 while in AUS it's an average of $55,033 a Operations Manager in US gets $60,715 the same job in AUS is $80,550 so we end up paying the same price for things we buy I just want to see the price im paying in steam rather then have to work it out on google or wait till im in the paypal screen to know what im actually paying

Buy some Steam Wallet cards from EB Games, because of the Aus store being in USD you get a better rate as you can buy $50 wallet credit for 50AUD.

Wow that's a good idea thanks!

Not really, Cause EB games charges a currency difference "rate/fee". Let's say you buy a 20 USD dollars steam wallet card at EB games, it will end up costing you roughly $23 AUD dollars depending on their set exchange rate. So, doesn't really make much of difference.

I didn’t mind at first when steam charges us aussys in USD because the exchange rate was good but now that it is getting worse, its annoying. The prices for game are becoming more expensive but you might not realise unless you look at your bank.

For example:
I just bought Alan wake for $2.99USD but that converts to $3.29AUD

I wish they would use Australian currency.
Get your steam games from green man gaming. you usually save about 40-50% off compared to the steam store price. Steam store is the most expensive place to buy steam games.

Yes

It may say EB on the store but its Gamestop...they all are. EB was always owned by the same mother company. My store had Software etc till they closed it cuz they would have to sign a new lease to change the sign. :P
There never has been gamestop here in australia, Well not in NSW or QLD or WA. Electronics Boutique changed their name to eb games about 10 years ago..

That's all well and good and I'm pretty sure everyone is aware of this.
But this still doesn't dispute that fact that only ‘some’ publisher set a higher price for the Australian region on Steam. Even GMG & Gamers Gate has had to add the geo restriction, due to pressures by the publishers.

Not only do we get slugged $20-$30 more on ‘some’ titles, there are times that when something is on sale, we do not get the same discount as the US.
There has been many times we a game is on sale 40% off but Australia will only get 20% off etc.

Now sure, we have a higher minimum wage and we don’t have a tipping system so we don’t have to scrape for tips. But you do have to take into account the cost of living in Australia is also higher. We earn more so everything else cost more. So if they are going to charge is more at least take out money in AUD not USD, especially when the AUD is only get 0.85 US cents per dollar etc.

In the end, I’m not stressed and always hunt for the best deals, and I can see the AUD going above the USD again in the near future, which is always a win for us none the less.

Cheerio.
I don't buy from steam any more as they charge us Australians on average 50% more.

Green man gaming has Discount codes all the time and those can be used on many games that the publishers make GMG overcharge on. Because of steams high prices and dodgy client software I'm forced to shop else where.
Right now as I type I have to have my face about 10 centermeters from the screen because of the tiny size 4 font that steam client usses

G2play is a good site to get steam and origin keys for almost half price.

Use unauthorized steam resellers at your own peril

Apparently AUD and NZ$ is coming. You may soon be paying through the nose in your native currency
Saw that this morning. The unreasonable conversion rates to AUD (and otherwise ridiculous prices) where what convinced me to switch from consoles to PC gaming. I think not long ago I saw something on PS3 on special for $99 (which is roughly US $88 I think) ... hope that's not the future of steam here. Though I suppose the latest CoD is already US $88 so it is here to an extent.
It this does not magically mean you will pay US prices. Whatever the price in AUD is what you'll pay. So it will be "less" through the nose as now, but bit much better.
This can be a good thing for us Aussies if our dollar loses even more value in the near future.

I hope so, but I'm wondering if the way ends up working might it easier for companies to set much higher comparitive AU specific prices in the future? Oh well, I suppose worrying about hypotheticals won't achieve much.
There should definitely be an option to change it to AUD $$$.
