Should steam show a counter of how many copies a game has sold?
The Holiday Sales has made me wonder how many people are buying which game and not just this game is 1st or something like that. Should steam introduce something like a counter to keep track of the sales of a game. I personally would find it very helpful, in me deciding whether I should buy the game or not. Is anyone feeling the same?

I think that competitors are the ones who would find this very very helpful; and that's the reason you'll not see this feature.

So you buy a game that everyone else buys? Isn't that how 13-15 year old kids act in everything :P? Many copies sold =/= good game.

Should? No. Will they? Doubt it.
But it would be fun!

Note that such data has a lot of actual monetary value and is not something that would be just 'given away' even in normal situations for publicly traded companies.

I don't think Valve would ever make that publically available due to them having lots of competition.

I'd actually really love to see this feature, however I think they should make it possible for the developer to decide whether or not this counter will be public.

It'd be Valve to make that choice. It's VERY sensitive information to provide to people.

If i was a competetive company and i KNEW that a supplier was giving me 80% more work/sales than another company, I could afford to haggle for a better deal, because i knew how much power I had over that supplier. Income and Expenses is one thing that is normally publically released as a part of a companys records. Their individual dealings with each of their partners.... nope.

Maybe, I think a better think to have would be a leaderboard that shows the games that were sold and played that week,
