Monthly Payments on Games?
To shorten up a long explaination of my idea, let's compare buying games on Steam as if you're buying a car from your local dealership. My idea consists of having two ways to pay for games on Steam. One is to pay in full, the other, a monthly payment. Let's say I want to buy Call of Duty: Ghosts, but I don't have the sixty dollars in my Steam Wallet as of now, so I could put my credit card information in, and pay it off twenty, fifteen, ten, or five dollars a month, and the charge would go straight towards my credit card.

Just a thought anyways.

Are you suggesting a layaway sort of option? or are you asking to be able to "pay off" a game that you purchase with Steam covering the cost until you pay?

I ask this because if you are going for the latter, that would be VERY bad business for Valve to essentially offer up financing on games. Too many people would go in debt and not pay and Valve would have to eat that.

Otherwise, I like the idea if you are going for more of a layaway idea. :)

Either or. I was hoping my idea could sort of "evolve" into a part of everyone's idea. Assuming from what you're saying, a layaway option is better?

I think so. Layaway would help someone like my brother for instance who doesn't always have the money to buy games as often as others out there do but when he sees a good deal out there, he could put $5 down and get the game at the price it was listed for as long as he pays in full by a certain time. Otherwise, he would get his money back (in his Steam wallet of course ;) ;) ) and Valve is no worse for the ware.

That sounds like a really good idea!! Hopefully some other Steam members can join into this Suggestion/Ideas forum so it can be sorta "fine-tuned", so to speak.

That is still no go because 5 dollars would allow him to experience the full game, as oppose to actually buying at full price. Down-payment for luxury items like entertainment makes absolutely no sense. Luxury items implies that you actually have extra money to expend on things you do not need. If you're broke, do not spend money on luxury items :\

What about him just paying it off, and the game is downloaded onto his computer, but he can't play it until it is completely paid off?

Most games here aren't extremally expenisve. Cars cost thousands of dollars while a steam game only cost, at max, 80 bucks. If you can't afford 80 dollars at the moment than you shouldn't be buying COD, you should be worrying about your bills.

what is the point ? if you could pay foir it you would and if you want to pay for it little by little why not just save your money for it ?

besides some one would abuse the system and put alot of $50 - $60 games on layaway then swap the steam .exe's out for nodvd cracked .exe's so what was ment to prevent the person from playing the game is nulled

Excuse me for not knowing what a nodvd cracked .exe file is, but is I'm assuming it's like a way to play the game, without paying it in full? I'm just guessing what it means...
Either way this idea is nuts. You have three choices:

1. Do not buy
2. Wait for a deeper discount.
3. Buy it at the advertised price.

If you want to go in to debt, then use your own credit cards, not at the expense of steam/valve.

Why not just put money aside each week and not spend it and then pay it all to valve when you can afford it and then you can play the game?

I can see a layaway option.

Either way, that would be a win-win for Valve. It'd be a big mess, but whatever brings the money in eh? You don't get the game until it's been fully paid for, and if it isn't paid off in time; then they still get your money eventually on account of it being credited back to your Steam wallet.

Some people just can't manage their money... They blow everything they have the first few days they have their paychecks. So what if they want to put 5 bucks towards a game that they'll pay more on next paycheck? We don't have the right to say whether it's morally right or wrong for them to do. It's certainly not our money that they are spending. However, I think they should have a firm, clearly stated rule on no cash refunds for this. Regardless of the circumstance. If you can't afford to eat, then you shouldn't have put the money down.

Furthermore, I don't think they should get advertised prices at the time of layaway... That would allow someone to just go and blanket down the minimum during a Steam sale and get a bunch of stuff for 80% off. They should get the going price for whenever the game is paid off. If there just so happens to be a sale where a game goes for 20 bucks, and they have 25 paid into it; they get the 5 bucks over credited back to their account.

Let's come up with some complicated way to give Steam money for the future purchase of a game which, if certain things don't work out (fail to pay in full, game pulled from Steam, etc), will result in funds transfered back into a Steam wallet.

Or...
