P.S. need Itsy and Zippy for badge
I was missing two cards for the full set, then bought deals in the hope to maybe get them and the expectation to be able to buy any cards still missing afterwards from the marketplace. The five cards I got from the final purchase were comprised of only three different cards and reduced the number of missing cards to one. So I clicked badge process and the last missing card, then went to the market only to be greeted by:
"This item may no longer be bought or sold on the market."
This happened before the official timeout. I only wanted one simple and, as also stated by the marketplace, still valid trading card.
23 cards but only 9 different. They are still visible in my inventory but I cannot even put them into an offer to another user.
I believe previous sales had grace periods of a day. Would need to investigate though.
its dissapointing I lost 2 Blase 3 Clementine 3 Itsy 3 monte 6 Rhombus 7 Sage 3 Silver 2 Sparkles 0 Tender 1 Zippy. wouldn't lost this many if the market place still sold card until the very last minute.
steam should give the users that still have cards to be able to trade, craft or make them into gems for a few days at least
I'm an idiot. I thought cards expires at 1 February 2015 and I left almost complete set in intervory...
P.S. Sorry for my English.
Also I think it BS that they expire at all. Considering that they have a $ value this is a total farce. The fact that they can only be earned via a specific period and via specific actions is enough to restrict their commonality I think.
It stated for me that it would expire the 3rd of January, but I didn't realize it was so early morning. No excuse really, I just had so much to do this year and little time for play and sleep, I could only use Steam for learning / training / helping friends with co-op and even that was often rushed.
I really would love you guys for it, Valve.
Not that I don't think they should have a little more time for them because of the holidays. I do, but I haven't really seen them change anything unless there was a major problem and it was on websites and such.
Apart from not making much sense with sales (that provided cards) expiring by the same time, Steam simply closed tradability before the stated time thus invalidating cards early. All the while they mislead customers by offering cards and showing them as valid. Again, this is arguably fraud.
I bought enough stuff to get me 5 cards somewhat close to the given expiration date since I planned to buy deals after I was done with work. Assuming that I knew the correct deadline I didn't hurry and bought in the final hour. And cards were an incentive for me to spend more recklessly. Only afterwards did I check to see I'm missing a card.
From earlier sales I knew buying on the market was easy and fast and cards where available in abundance - so that's where I went. There I had to discover I couldn't get the final card that way.
I had no prior experience with the trading forums and generally didn't want to get into deals not clearly cut with other players.
My ignorance of the trading forum and the rumoured "40 minutes" and my anger and shock about Steams sudden executive decision prevented me from even checking if I could trade with players in the alleged 40-minute grace period.
Later, when I found a fitting trade offer, I discovered that within the offer/deal page neither the other trader's inventory nor mine held any holiday trading cards thus contradicting my profiles inventory.
I know of Steam's tendency to cut deals short. I think they did this on Thanksgiving. But when they make things part of a deal that magically vanish after purchase I think I have the right to be upset and entitled to be done right by. Of course, once the fan is hit Steam is unlikely to repair a situation in which they are well-off.
Steam did such a good job with Don't Starve Frontier Pack by showing what you end up getting in case you already had Don't Starve (the singleplayer basegame). Things like that lead to a certain calm of mind when buying on steampowered.com. And then such foo happens, very disappointing.
