New feature: Profile Music
ive thought of the possibility of having a feature to upload or choose custom profile music so when people click on your profile and view it, it will play the music chosen. Just an idea

I would hope you would use the search function for this very topic.

I dont want Steam to turn into MySpace.

You who makes sure nobody is going to upload copyrighted music?
Cathulhu Mar 14, 2021 @ 12:12am
Oh god, not this again.
Not going to happen.
This crap died with the 90s and good riddance.
No.

The more people that post about it the more it gets recognised. Plus im sure steam is easily big enough to partner with certain production companies etc. Don't have to upload music just add a tab thats full of approved music.

That won't be profitable. You know what they should do? Make the game music that people buy playable through the profile. Because that would give people more incentive to purchase that.

There's literally no reason to do it other than pointless bloatware. This isn't myspace. There's a reason no other service does that. If you want music use spotify or something while you look at your profile.

It will be complicated because if someone visits his profile so a loud music will blast off

Steam has many different customisation options for different aesthetics and pretty much have everything to make your profile look clean or decent looking, Why not just add music to the mix. Lots of ways it can be done and no reason for it not to be done.

Reason number 1 - The cost

Your last suggestion was for Valve to foot the bill.... why on earth would they do that?
Theblaze Mar 14, 2021 @ 1:51am
People have suggested this over the last couple of years. You know if Valve had the intention, time and money to add such feature, they would have done this YEARS ago.

The fact it still doesn't exist, speaks for itself - they have no interest of adding said feature.

Are you going to pay the thousands of dollars per song per month to stream it to people on the internet? Because thats how much these music streaming services are paying, PER SONG so that people can listen to it. And no the music won't be free, just because you can buy a song for 99 cents doesn't mean it allows you to stream it to dozens, hundreds or even thousands of people.

They force people to either pay for that service or listen to ads. Seeing as how you don't and will not have thousands of people per month going to your profile to listen to the songs there is no way they could make up the price that its going to cost them via fees or ads.

I know I certainly will NEVER pay a fee to listen to someones profile and I won't listen to a bunch of ads for stuff I have no interest in.

I listen to the radio now and then, but only when I am in the car, or outside working on something, when I am home I have my music collection I can listen to with no ads which I have gotten for free or already paid for.

Add on top of this that this would HAVE to be an opt in feature thats off by default because I know I would NEVER want to go to someones profile and have music blasting at me. I'm listening to my own music or the TV, I don't want to hear stuff you like suddenly over playing what I'm already listening to just because I wanted to go to your profile for a few seconds to check something.

But you would have known all this had you bothered to use the search feature because this has been discussed to death and unless you are going to pay the the thousands of dollars per month per song for it to be played, Valve will NEVER do this.

No, there are enough dumb features on Steam as it is.

This isn't even remotely a valid reason. You still have provided no benefit to even the users for this pointless "feature". As I stated before, no "social media" has this goofy "profile music" that you're clamoring for.

That'll cost money and chances are the list would be rather small and that the music would be the sort that most people wouldn't be interested in. Broadcast rights aren't cheap.

SO you have something thatt will cost a large amount of money, offer limited content, and thusly of limited use to users.
