Suggestion: Assign who can use group's abbreviation
Hello,

I recently created a group in order to bring our fans, friends and members together in one place. Since my team's members use the abbreviation of the group to show the team we belong to, it becomes confusing when members of the group use it as well.

I was wondering whether it'd be possible to add an option perhaps in group permissions where you can select whether members can use the abbreviation tag or not.

I'm sure many group admins in Steam will agree this would help bring their community into one place and remove the idea of having to create two groups, just so community members do not use the abbreviation.

If you guys agree please show your support!

To those who don't understand how Groups work in Steam

When you create a group, there are a few things you can do:

1. Create a name
2. Set an abbreviation
3. Write a summary
4. Add a custom url (i.e.steamcommunity.com/groups/GROUPNAME)
5. Set main Language
6. Set main Country
7. List any associated games
8. Set an avatar
9. Add portal links
10. Set it to public (anyone can join) or set it to private (only users you invite can join)

The abbreviation that you set to your group is unique and cannot be used by any other group. Also, these abbreviations can be used as team tags in-game by going to your game settings (not all Steam games support this).

Any questions please ask. Hope this gets seen by the Steam team.

Thanks.

PS: Sorry if this has been already posted before, I couldn't find anything.

This part still sounds like what we were discussing earlier. By using that line do you mean one Steam group can not use the same abbreviation then another Steam group or are you referring to a group within a group?

Is anywhere in the main post talking about a group within a group? I'm talking about a group's abbreviation, I really cannot believe you can't understand what is written in the main post unless perhaps English isn't your first language. I don't know.

And I do understand how groups work. You just seem to have an issue clarifying the suggestion.

I really don't think you do, otherwise you wouldn't be clattering this discussion topic about it...

Right now, in Steam, groups have an abbreviation which is unique. This is not something I am suggesting they do, this is something that is effective now.

What I am suggesting is for Steam to add an option in group permissions to allow admins to select who can and cannot use the group's abbreviation. Simple. Please, stop clattering this topic.
