Torrent support for Larger Games

Just recently purchased GTA 5 and was thinking that for games over 15GB of size, the Steam client should have the option to torrent the game files. I have a decent connection and am always amazed at how I can never get over 2.6MB down. Any thoughts?

Torrenting is exactly what game publishers don't want people on, even if it is for legit downloads.

It could just be your connection, I always get 13MB on my 130Mbps connection.

That sounds about right to me. 2.6MB = 26Mbps download.

Steam maxes it out. Why do we need torrents? That would be a BAD move.

That sounds about right to me. 2.6MB = 26Mbps download.

Pretty much. 1 Byte=8 bits, so 2.6MB=20.8Mb.

You still can, although for Steamworks games you'll still need a Steam account.

Asking a friend with faster internet connection to make a Steam backup will work too.

Torrenting isn't actually illegal. The US government invented the BiTORRENT Protocol. The LoL client has a P2P (Bitorrent option) that helps improve download times. Personally I think when I download a game (I will use GTA5) I can tick/untick a box to say if I want to help 'seed' other people who are downloading GTA5.

I get exactly 2.0 on my 20Mb connection. A friend has a 100Mb connection and gets much higher dl speeds. It is kinda sad that I can get 10-20MB/s+ download on my cell phone for the same price I pay my ISP. Google Fiber save us! :P

No it's not, but most of the content that is actually torrented is copyrighted and is then considered illegal.
