People are not able to invite you to game, unless the game is installed, please develop it?
Hi all,

I am a little bit frustrated with invites. I use few computers to access the steam account, but I do have some specific games only installed on my own computer. I hate to get daily invites to play CS:GO or similar when I am somewhere else with no game installed on that particular machine.

Please development team - further develop the steam UI to prevent the invites from other people if you don't have the specific game installed on your machine? Or if you have better idea, all the better :)

Thank you,
OldFart

I've gotten invitations to play games that aren't even on my account, period. Have they fixed that yet?

Are the users (who send these invites) in your friends-list?

I can't speak for OP, but for me, yes. Where else would they come from?

So - to clarify, you are suggesting that Steam / Valve decides which messages to block and which ones we receive, from our "friends", right?

It's not a message, unless you count a clearly specially-designed big grey bar saying [name] is inviting me to play [game] that is also a click-here-to-launch bar to be a "message".

The same way that you can not show the 'adverts' when a game closes, or the popups that people are playing games, etc.

People already want the "don't allow requests from level x" option, another for "don't allow game request if game isn't installed" isn't.... "evil" or a risk to your freedom, just an option for people to choose.

In many games you can also send invite to friends not having the game at all,
so there is a lot of room for improvement on that sector
^ So it's not just me.

Yeah, I don't have CS:GO, and I don't want to get CS:GO, and I don't want to play CS:GO. Would be nice if people didn't invite me to play CS:GO.

Thankfully, such invites are rare, and generally stop when I tell them I don't play CS:GO.

So, a system (opt-in) that is based on the Steam games installed on a users' system, and linked to their Steam library, for that respective device - (mobile, tablet, laptop, PC etc).

For example - if I sent an invite to (play a specific game) a friend who is currently on their mobile / tablet (thus don't have any games installed) / device without said game installed, I would receive a message stating that the said user doesn't have the game, and they would not receive the current, 'user has sent an invite to play a game' message.

That would be nice and exact answer for the problem, thank you clarifying the problem Teminus.
Just one consideration, in redesigning the system: You have to make sure that whether the recipient has the game in question does not become known to the sender. Basically, the sender can't get a notice saying whether the recipient owns the game. This is because some people have their profiles private, including what games they own.

I think that what you might need is a way for the recipient to clearly indicate rejection of an offer to join a game. And then, on top of that:
* an option to autoreject invitations where one doesn't own the game
* an option to autoreject invitations where one owns the game but doesn't have it installed
* an option to autoreject all invitations

Oh my god, I can't believe this feature still is not implemented!!! People Inviting me all over the place to play games I don't own and never owned, it's a pain in the a, really. Then I have to message them to say "I don't have this game", only to find out next to be invited again to the same game I don't own. Should I unfriend them, should I block them? I don't know if it's the right thing to do, but steam should wotrk on a feature that does not let player invite other players to games that are not in their library. Simple as day.
