(Parental Settings) Playtime Timers for Children (Sorry, Kids!)
My suggestion here is having a built-in timer for each Steam user and parent to use. Parents can set how long their children may play and on what days they may play, or Steam users can time themselves for how long they could play before their timers say "0:00:00".

This is a great alternative to help kids and older Steam users who are "addicted" to and obsessed about computers because there is a serious problem especially in America and places elsewhere where an average American teen spends seven hours an average day, being in front of screens. This is a bad thing because this eventually leads to possible problems, such as obesity, lack of socialness, and lower grades at school and/or college.

The main idea for this setting would be for obese, disobedient, and/or other kids to realize that there is so much more to do other than just being in front of screens and therefore be healthier mentally and physically.

Of course, there is nothing wrong with playing on Steam for a little bit, but, when kids segregate themselves from their friends to play Steam for as many as ten hours an average day, the opposite is true. I hope that this is a great idea.

The timer thing actually sounds like a good idea..but can't parents just remind their children to boot off? We'd be relying on a timer..

They can do that instead, but the main problem is that many kids are so disobedient, they disrespect their own parents by ignoring their commands and have things in their own way.

The last thing which I have forgotten would be the parts where their accounts and their sessions would shut down until the next day, where only parents can access their accounts by using parental codes, and where Steam pop-up messages would appear, warning the player that they have [that much time] left.

As a parent why not just remove keyboard and mouse from the computer when "computer time is over", that way even if you have disobedient children you can be assured they aren't playing games without a keyboard and mouse. If it's a laptop just remove the whole computer from the children's room.

If the computer is in a shared house space just don't let the children use it unless a parent is in the room?

~ Not saying more parental options in Steam are a bad idea.. but.. it's not really Steam's job to parent someone's kid. So i'd personally rather Valve focus on developing things that benefit their larger gaming community of older Steam users, vs that of little kids.

i assume you have to be talking about little kids here.

Teenagers could /easily/ figure out how to circumvent any sort of "parent game time lock". Most teens are waaaaay more computer savvy than parents. Such a lock might falsely make a less computer savvy parent think they don't need to actually check up on what their teenager is doing, when they still do. A parent will have to actually still be a parent and check up on an older child/teen who might be more clever than the parent thinks.

i remember easily bypassing blocks on tv and compter when i was a teen anyway. i'm sure teens today are smarter than me when it comes to that sort of thing.

I did not say that it was Valve's job to parent other kids; I only said that parents would be better at parenting was there that option. Also, kids still can find ways to "steal back" what parents have taken away from them. As I have said, kids are becoming so disobedient that they would do anything to start having things in their own, dirty ways again. Lastly, parents can type in a PIN which only they shall know, not the teenagers, in order to log in and change their parental settings. Has anyone of you anymore question(s)?

P.S. It would be just as good as the built-in Family View.

That's because they have been brought up to be disobedient. Relying on a timer to control your kids is just piss poor parenting.

??? I did not say anything about relying upon a simple timer to control one's own kids. Anything. What I have said is that it is very useful if kids would keep being naughty and that even being punished would not change their minds.

Am I missing anything else to add? Even, my innocent parents love the idea.

So you're saying that never in the history of ever have children been so disobedient? um ok

Of course, this exposes the huge flaw here: if the kids are going to steal back the mouse or whatever, they're quite capable of finding out what the PIN is.

Steam adding tools to help parents control unauthorized use is a nice idea, but given how basically every other feature on steam gets stuck in basic-functionality-only purgatory, good luck with them adding advanced features like this that work properly.

Teaching your kids when you get to off the computer and go outside is a better idea. If I had kids I would never let them have as long as I used to have on a PC when I was little.

True, but what if they would not listen? What if they just ignore parents? What if they still do despite having been taught and punished multiple times? Then, there must be a better way of helping them if it cannot be done in this way.

Take their computers. Unplug the box or monitor and lock it up. Parents are responsible for their own kids. Not that there is anything wrong with a timer or anything. But it is much simpler to do the parenting yourself.

Yes, take the computer away or somehow make it unusable to them.
