Steam Client to stop using Internet Explorer proxy settings
The Steam Client uses Internet Explorer proxy settings for browsing the Community Market, Steam Store and for downloading games,... (Proxy settings are not used for logging in).

Since there is no possibility to stop the client using these settings, it is costing me precious bandwidth and I arrive at the download limit of my paid proxy service way too soon. The proxy offers a slower download speed too, so downloads take much longer.

For the sake of not having to disable proxy settings every time in Internet Explorer, I would like to see the Steam Client modified.

Not only is it against the Terms of Service of VALVe to use a proxy I am unwillingly forced using a proxy service. I don't think it's that difficult to make the Steam client ignore IE's proxy settings permanently.

The last thing I would ever want is to violate the VALVe's Terms of Service. A simple mistake as leaving IE's proxy settings on, by accident, could lead to unwanted, but serious consequences as to having my +660 Steam Games account banned. I don't want my Steam account banned by accident. I always by my games from my native Steam Store.

So basically, I don't want to use a proxy for Steam.

I absolutely support this... Actually just had this happen to me.
After Steam ditching the Internet Explorer engine for Webkit, I'm actually confused why it would even use those settings.

Steam should just have its own proxy setting.
As it is now, anyone can just change it to whatever they want anyway...

Because Microsoft, the IE proxy settings are also the Windows default proxy settings, which is why Steam uses them. It would probably make sense to add an extra set of options in Steam to not use a proxy, use the Windows / IE default, or configure a proxy just for Steam.

I'm glad to see other users requesting a seperate setting for the Steam client for proxy settings.

A main concert is to save valuable proxy bandwith and to avoid a ban by VALVe for 'using a proxy'.

Almost all windows programs use the Windows settings. Chome/Firefox all use the windows default proxy setting

You can't use Setam through a proxy any. the client uses other ports. Note your issue with 'proxy bandwidth' isnt Steam's issue
