I don't remember it. Can you link where it states the ability was removed in an update.
It was never taken away because you were never supposed to have it in the first place.
It was pretty much a hack that tricked the system into allowing you a 3rd showcase of a particular type. They just updated the back-end to verify that the profile was valid and no funny business was being had.
The old hack that I had once used allowed one to get as many multiples as they had purchased showcases. You had the base, the extra purchased one, then you could change any further purchased ones by manipulating code on the showcase screen of the profile editor. Each showcase had a type associated with it and you could trick the system into thinking your purchased achievement showcase was actually another screenshot or artwork or whatever else showcase. You could have a profile that was top to the bottom just one single type of showcase. That was patched out. The one in the link appears to be a different approach.
