Movies and Series
I'm sure somebody already brought this up but, yup, Steam could also sell movies and series.

They did in the past and stopped because it wasn't worth it.
Shame.

Nowadays we have to rely on streaming services only.

Plus, sometimes you wanna watch something and you don't even know which streaming service has the content.

Also, Steam gives a somewhat sense of ownership that streaming services just don't

I pay for GP and I usually test games there, and if I really like it, I buy it here on steam.

I wish they continued to sell movies and shows, I still have the first episode of "Outcast" in my library.

Their loss.

I'd buy shows/movies on here if they decided to sell them again. Idk who decided it wasn't worth it but they made a mistake and were wrong.

Playstation did the same thing. Sold movies and shows, then removed everything. I still have my shows on there but now I use my Xbox for Movies/Shows. I already own a lot of "Completed Series"

"Nowadays we have to rely on streaming services only" lol, who's we? I don't. I am not paying for any streaming service. If people want to burn/throw away their money doing that, that is on y'all.

Lots of ways to watch what you wanna watch. Streaming services that still stick you with Ads unless you pay for a premium account. Nah, fam.

It's not really worth it, because they'd have to buy the rights to have anything on their platform for people to be able to watch them. Streaming platforms already provide this service (however annoying and numerous they may be) and the amount of money Steam would have to fork out to get a decent catalogue of movies and shows would be in the billions. They wouldn't see a return on investment for decades.

They have money and they sold movies/shows before. Valve just wants to focus on games.

They don't have to buy rights, they are a store front.
You wanna sell here, you sell it and they collect their cut, that's about it, just like games.
And I'm talking downloading your movies and series like games, not streaming it from a steam broadcasting server.

Which is where they excel anyway and I agree with them keeping their focus on games.

Which is fair, but given the prevalence of streaming platforms (where people can acquire the films and tv shows they want to watch), I doubt any studio or publishing company will want to sell on here anyway, likely because it would destroy the services they already provide.

Well, Netflix is not doing the greatest and and Disney is not growing like they hoped.

In fact, Steam proves that even when people can pay a small fee monthly to get something, at the end of the day, they prefer buying it, as I said, I have GP but prefer to buy games I really like here on steam. yet, I don't cancel my GP sub.

it's the same thing, selling doesn't mean your streaming service is not viable anymore, is just another way you can make some money.

Also, you can make things time exclusive.

Studios/Companies sold on here before and sure, Valve excels at selling games but nothing wrong with sharing some space for movies/shows again.

That was back then, now with this new generation (Generation Betas? Gen Zs Vs etc lol) maybe movies/shows would pop off more better than it did back in the day, selling wise.

if Microsoft/Xbox keeps selling old movies/shows on the daily (digital versions, even more so now) I don't see why Valve wouldn't want some of that pie either.

There's a crowd that would love movies/shows on here, that's basically the main point.

I wanted to add another fact too.

Amazon Prime now is putting ads even when you pay for their service cause they are not growing.
they created a more expensive tier and the one we used to pay, they put ads in.
And I'm talking right in the freaking middle of whatever you are watching.

I am sure every streaming service will have a very high tier for people to pay if they want to get rid of ads... they are all slimy and will do whatever to drain more money from their customers.

Then you have the big families who all have separate accounts and Netflix charging people if they want to share their password? all that money adds up.

But of course, you have the people who are paying those expensive tiers, paying for extra people etc, they don't care one bit about having to pay so much (the wealthy, rich etc) and enjoy burning/throwing away their money. They show these services they support it and want to continue being robbed/drained.

I'm glad I don't support that and will never support it. I will not touch any streaming service for anything I want to watch. They can kiss my bum bum. They don't care about their customers, they just care about their money.

I'll continue buying the shows/movies I want digitally from Microsoft/Xbox. Everything hits the digital store after a quick bit (movies, even more now lol but the prices they charge are hilarious, I buy shows/movies when they are on sale and are below $10 bucks)

Getting a complete series like Orange is the new Black, Mad Men, Bates Motel etc for $5 bucks? yeah, I'm on it.

I wish I could buy Fallout cause season 1 was amazing.

It's the same. The largest elephant in the room was distribution rights, which is a whole snowball of bananas.
