steam cache using local transfert for family home
hello/good evening here is my suggestion.

create an application like steamcmd or the steam client but whose sole purpose is to be able to download/uninstall games and then allow people connected to the local network to download them more quickly.

the application should be available for linux/windows but must be able to download the version of the games corresponding to the user's system, for example imagine we install the application on linux using a docker image then from our steam-client on windows we should be able to manage this application to say which games to download and then the application will detect our operating system as well as our steam account to download the games.

the application could have a small config file in which we could choose who can control and download games on it by specifying the steamid and/or choosing that everyone present on the local network can do so (a bit like with the current local transfer), and we could also specify in which file to download the games or even make sure that each user has a file containing these games (and uninstall games from it if the user ask to).

the application would only have to check the validity of steam accounts to download games and verify that game files have been downloaded and are not corrupted. for added security, the application could ask for a steam API key to link it to a main/master steam account(but other account in the local network should still be able to download/uninstall games on it if permission acces is given in the config file).

it would be better than using a lancache who require dns redirection and it would be more simple for family home.

like that user won't require to have a special account or do dns redirection to have a home steamcache easily and it would reduce the bandwidth usage since the game will only need to be downloaded once, updated and then send back to the local network when requested by a local pc.

thank you for reading my suggestion, i hope you think about it.

i know but i mean something that can be installed on server/unused pc, because currently it require to be logged to a steam account and is not that easy to install in docker, also it can only transfert installed games file of the computer meaning that games who arent shared throught family sharing can't be download for other family/home member if the account used don't own the games.

but i completly understand your point its already present its just that a dedicated software with the ability i described would be nice in my opinion

You want LanCache?

:nkCool:

lancache require dns redirection or proxy and i prefer native and plug and play software so not all peoples in the house need to connect to the proxy or choose the dns created for it.

i know there a lot of other alternative, for now i will probably try to set a docker container with a steam-client on it with my account but i hope valve will think about making a dedicated software so it would be native and more simple to do.

anyway thank you for your comment i appreciate the spirit but its just a suggestion for valve to do a dedicated software
