primary monitor
I'm sure it's easier said than done, but I do really wish I could set a default monitor for all my steam games to open to. As some games aren't remember and get really finnicky when I set to windowed so i can move it to the correct monitor to then set fullscreen again, (I tried the big picture method, it didn't work)

It's more then likely something that has to be done on the games end

Pretty much. Each game is going to have different requirements and be coded differently in terms of graphical settings, including primary monitor. That's something that cannot be done on Steam's end.
Some games do have actual settings for which is the main monitor to play on, but it's up to the Devs if they want to add that option.
it's more just a QoL thing. I know how to switch it. I just wish steam had a setting to default every game to a specific monitor cause I'm lazy T.T
How is Steam supposed to manipulate the behavior of thousands of games?

I mean your idea sounds great, except for the part there's not a reasonable way to do it when the game is apparently ignoring the Windows primary monitor setting....

In all fairness I did say "Easier said than done" which implies i don't understand what it would take to do it. however technology continues to advance. I remember when a 2gb flash drive cost like 15 bucks and now I can get an SD card for roughly the same price and 12 extra gigs. it's a post in suggestions and Ideas that might get seen and lead to a nice littel change that I'm sure anyone could appreciate.
I don't see Steam being able to do this. Steam can't go around modifying a games code to what you what. Game devs are the only one that can edit their code and they already have the ability to add options to change which monitor it uses.
All my games always start up on my main monitor without doing anything at all. My second monitor is on the left side of my main monitor and is set up that way in the Nvidia Control Panel (Set Up Multiple Displays) not sure what the AMD version would be. I have never had a game start up on my second monitor unless I have dragged it there or changed a setting in the game myself.
Make sure the monitors are plugged into the GPU (or whateva but laptop docks are left to right more or less) from right to left so that monitor 1 is in fact true 1 (which is really Monitor 0) and so forth, then make the main monitor "primary" in Windows Display settings, never fails but the only time things get conflicted is when you plug in say a monitor 1 into GPU monitor 2 port sometimes that's not great. :badluck:

I had the strangest issue the other day where the BIOS was popping up on monitor 2 when only one monitor was plugged in after the BIOS loaded on monitor 1 the BIOS settings would show up on monitor 2, I fixed it yet it confounds me still. :chirp:

Except for the impossible part...

Some of us are experienced developers and understand the scope of the problem. You might as well say, just make a patch to fix all game bugs, or make a pill to cure all disease.

Just saying something and not understanding how unreasonable it really is doesn't make it reasonable.

It would be nice if it was, but until all games are built the same way in a uniform manner, you're never going to be able to control them like you inagine.
clearly the people seeing this and responding to it feel the need to be condescending for no reason. Sorry for making a post about a small thing that would just be nice to have. It wasn't about my inability to switch it to the right monitor. It was just a change that would be nice to have. as I'm too dumb to figure out how to remove the post I'm simply going to unsubscribe from my own post. Have the day you deserve!

Sometimes the problem is the game or the way Windows has the monitors actually set up, for me, Windows (and some games) was calling monitor 1 → monitor 2 when it really was monitor 0. :badluck:
