Please remove age verification menu when logged in to Steam
Whether signed out of Steam or signed in, when browsing the store sometimes 18+ games or mature games with violence or other references are restricted, and an age verification menu pops up. This is to prevent children from viewing mature content. However, when using a web browser, Steam promises that making an account will make the pop ups go away. I remember it clearly saying 'sign in to remove these age verification messages' for years.

This is not the case. When I am signed in to Steam client on my desktop, I still get frequent age verification messages for stuff like Call of Duty, but this is not necessary because I can view 18+ content. I suspect that because the age value is not stored on my steam account, this message will continue to pop up. Anyways, there should be a solution to this because it makes the browsing experience worse. Maybe there can be an under 18 or over 18 identifier in each person's account, as a private setting, which wouldn't infringe on privacy that much.

Anyways, it is still an inconvenience when I am signed in and I shouldn't have to use these checks.

Q: Why do you KEEP asking my damn age throughout the store?

A: We're with you on this. Unfortunately, many rating agencies have rules that stipulate that we cannot save your age for longer than a single browsing session. It's frustrating, but know we're filling out those age gates too.

Legally required age verification screens are not related to the adult only sexual content category which requires you to log in. They are separate, unrelated systems.
That is not my point. When I am signed in, I don't want to see these messages. The Steam website said that I can sign in to remove these messages. This does not happen, so I am reporting this issue.

You get these messages for both sexual content games and mature games so I don't know why you are saying they are unrelated systems, you would still be messaged for both.

No, it did not say you can sign in to remove those messages. Because "those messages" are legally required to be shown to you.
I will prove you wrong. wait a minute.

You know what, I cannot prove it to you right now as the message is not appearing.

Where does it say logging in removes these messages?
Maybe they changed it. It didn't say it for all messages just a few when I was browsing steam on a web browser ages ago.

Here, I found it. This is what I was remembering: https://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/comments/hfq0zq/steam_finally_saves_your_preferences_and_will_not/

"Hey, would you like to hide this kind of warning in the future?

Just answer a few questions below so we know what kinds of products to warn you about or hide from your store.

Thanks! We've saved your preferences and will use them to filter your store going forward."

So, it doesn't actually talk about age, just mature games, but I still feel lied to when I browse the store and am hit with messages. It suggests that I can hide the warning.

No it does not, it let you know that you set the personal view-filter. Has nothing to do with the age-gate.

That's a contractual obligation. In fact the disclaimer at the top may actually deviate from ESRB's requirements, though apparently Valve provides the ESRB requirements more as a courtesy to the developers.

If you want to bypass the age gate, you'll need to modify your browser cookies, specifically make a "birthtime" cookie with a value of 1 and an expiration as far in the future as possible.

I suspect that all of this will change since some countries are starting to introduce age verification and or banning platforms with adult content.

Irrespective of age, the way I see it, is that it is a promise or assurance that signing-in would remove this message. That is what it said. It could even bypass age factors if it was honoured. That is the basis of my original point.

Thank you for the suggestion. Im a bit lazy/ not smart enough to mess around with values though so I will just live with it. I just wanted to complain so that maybe I can get a better experience.

Thinking beyond yourself, someone is logged into their account, sees a game with an age gate, lies that they are 18 or older. Their guardian happens to see their are on that store page, question why, the kid will naturally lie stating they didn't know it was an adult game. Some parents being who they are tend to sue.

Parent: Why is there no warning on here?
Valve: Their is, your son stated they were over 18

and thus Valve has covered their behinds with a hilariously simple few clicks, yet despite the few clicks it takes to get past the age gate it took more effort to post here regarding it. Bravo...

So because of legal reasons a company should reduce the customer experience? No. You get cookie consent messages on websites to comply with GDPR. It is one of the worst features of the web, and with the amount of browsing I do, sometimes drives me away from websites because it's a barrier of access. It's the browser's fault as well for not autocompleting consent forms.

I did suggest earlier a profile setting marking the user over or under 18. In this scenario the age verification would be handled automatically, and parents couldn't sue because the age check was in place with software, and the kid chose to lie.

And I have a voice. I will use it. Nobody can stop me. I got frustrated filling out those ages consent forms and am doing something about it by sending feedback. I am improving technology and progress one way or another. And I like doing it.

I don't consider a couple of clicks for an age gate as a reduction in customer experience mainly due to firstly it not being a difficult task in the slightest and secondly if I'm already going to be doing clicking after that then for what reason does the clicks within the age gate pose a reduction customer experience. Your reply to my post took more effort in clicking to view this topic and typing out the reply than it requires going through the age gate. I presented you with a sound reason as to why the age gate exists it is now your responsibility to comprehend that reason beyond that I can't provide anything else.
